Gateway Health System Hospital
This is the worst hospital I have ever been a patient in. I have had several hospital stays in different hospitals, but this is by far the worst I've ever been in. The nurses are LAZY!!!! It seems like they wait until you are resting well to disturb you. Hospital stays aren't that comfortable to begin with, but they make sure you never want to come back. When asked for assistance, they act like you are bothering them instead of doing their jobs. I always thought people who work in the medical field should be compassionate people. If so, these nurses need a refresher's course, and could use an extra dosage of bedside manners.
I would have given higher marks except I had a bad experience was some of the daytime nurses. Two of them were absolutely horrible to me. They treated me like I was something horrible because of my size. They would not call the doctor to get me pain meds that would work. One of them even yanked on my drain tube and shoved it back in. HOWEVER, the nighttime nurses and the techs in the daytime & nighttime were EXCELLENT. One nurse in particular was a lady named Bev who worked evenings/nights. She was very caring and always cheered me on when I would walk to halls. She even offered several times to walk with me. Please know that not all the nurse are bad. It was just two of them that were mean to me. It is also important to know that this hospital does not have chairs to fit super obese people in the waiting rooms. But I did have a staff member find one that I could just barely fit in. I wish they would get some armless chairs or bigger chairs.
Overall care was great. I only did not appreciate two nurses. They were not really mean to me but they could have been more considerate. One nurse had to come in on her day off so she was cranky. I believe if you are cranky it will rub off on the patient. You should make them feel good. The other nurse was not considerate of my daughter staying with me alone with out her father. She is 12yr. But that is ok, I know she done it for safety reasons and I understand. I just had been off Zoloft for a few days. I like to brag on nurse. Her name is Ester. If you are lucky to get her, be assured she will take care of you! She is so nice and understanding. She will do everything to make sure you are comfortable.
I had an ok stay at this hospital. They were wonderful about letting my mom and my six year old nephew stay with me in my room. The only issues I had were when my IV machine was empty and was beeping. I would call the nurse station and let them know but it would take a while for someone to come. One time it took 20 min for someone to come and the person that came wasn't coming for that reason she was just checking up on me. The second issue I had is when I asked for a bath. The CNA came in got everything ready and then just handed me the washclothes for me to wash myself. I mean I haven't been able to take a tub bath for a couple of years now no way I can wash anything past the incision now. Other than the above mentioned incidents my stay was ok. For the most part the nursing staff was very genuine and caring for their patients.
