Good Shepard Hospital
Day Surgery staff was fantastic - much thanks to Julie! Recovery Staff was fantastic - much thanks to Ann who took care of me for 6 hours in recovery while we all waited for my bed assignment. Ann you're the best! Once I got onto the floor, it was very different….The nurses and patient care tech seemed to be way too busy to answer the nurse call light, so thank God that you were able to give yourself your own pain medicate on what they call a “push”. I was in a semi private room, which was nice and quiet. I did have a day nurse named Gail who was AWSOME, and a night nurse named Marta who was very nice. I also had a tech named Bea who was also great, but still it was a slow response to answer the nurse call light…20 min. was the average.
Clean, organized and friendly.
In 2 years they have improved greatly.
I have been to many other hospitals either as a patient or family member of a patient. I was a patient in the stepdown unit here. While other reviewers of this hospital have made negative comments on the privacy of this unit, they should remember that the unit is structured specifically to provide the post-op patients with the extra care and monitoring they need. They succeed at this very well with their unit setup by keeping the patients together and allowing the nursing staff one central area to cover. When needed there was always a nurse only a few seconds away.
Overall, I was impressed with the hospital staff. The nurses in the ICU (where I was for nine days) were all wonderful (with the exception of one) and the nurses during the day on the regular floor were wonderful as well. Some of the nurses at night left a little to be desired, but anyplace will have good and bad nurses. My surgeon is amazing and I would highly recommend him.
I was in the step down unit which has three patients to a room. All curtains were drawn so there was a little privacy. Although my last night there one of the patients was very annoying and talked loud all night long. I was sure glad to go home. There was a different nurse taking care of you each night, most of whom were very helpful and kind.
All in all, it would have been nice to have a private room, but they were all booked up.
I was in the Step Down unit and the staff their is excellent and they are not only their to care for you but also to listen and to talk to you and treat you with the up most respect.
The staff tried real hard but the step down process was horrible. You're in a room with two other people and its very noisy and unrestful. I was in with two men and I felt this was totally inappropriate. Sometimes the other patients left their lights and TV's on all night and it was not peaceful at all. The one nurse seemed a bit overworked. I would suggest a different set-up with more privacy.
