Pennsylvania Hospital Hospital
I could not ask for better service. The staff right from the admissions desk, the day stay unit, the OR staff and the post-op care was amazing. I understand why Pennsylvanila Hospital is ranked as onle of the best nation wide. I would highly reccomend this facility for anyone considering Bariatric Surgery.
Everyone that I interacted with during my stay was very helpful and nice. Even those professionals who I asked general questions were very helpful and curteous. The nurses specifically were very upbeat and you could tell that they cared about their patients and seeing to their needs. These ladies and gentlemen were the best!
I felt very good with my choice of hospital. They took good care of me and kept my family informed. By luck, I had a private room, which was excellent. My only complaint was with the nursing staff. The night nurse was ok, fairly personable, though she didn't seem to be very concerned in making sure my CPAP machine was hooked up. The nurse I had on the day following my surgery was awful. Not responsive at all. In fact, I had an asthma attack while waiting for her to help me. She was rude and just didn't seem to care at all.
The professionals were very caring and talented. Bad points: Had a serious complication occur in the middle of the night about 2AM first night post op. I repeatedly asked them to call my husband in and they never let him know about it til 8 am. I wanted him to come and be a support to me. I was very scared and anxious. My complication was that I was vomiting blood..pretty scary, huh. Prior to me beginnning to vomit blood, I asked if my husband could sleep in the chair overnight. The nursing supervisor refused to let him stay, saying that I had a female roommate and overnight opposite sexed support persons could not stay. They do have a point. But Jcaho (JCAHO is like the FDA but instead of regulating drugs JCAHO regulates hopsitals)it recently put out a guide wriitten to patient and they strongly recommend that you have a support person with you in the hospital at all times "even overnite" to assist you personally and to be aware of what is going on while you are asleep/unaware. They did let my husband stay overnite with me the 2 to 3 days I stayed in the ICU. It took the nurses so long to get me as needed medications. I waited three hours for anti- anxiety meds. And I had to wait up to 1 to 2 hours to get other as needed meds. The nurse should have never let me wat or anyone else wait for an as needed mediation for that long. If the pharmacy could not get it to her, then she should have went to the pharmacy to get it herself aftter the first hour. My discharge medication list was unreadable.
