Shands Hospital
They were very concerned with your well being and did not want me to experience any pain.
The staff even at 4am is pleasant. The only drawback I saw was that the med students would come in at 4am, then the residents at 5 or 6 and then the attending to pull it all together at 7am. The beds are larger and you are placed right into a bed from the OR so that you don't have to make that wonderful transfer when you are more awake and at your room. The doctors are quite knowledgable and have been doing this surgery for years.
Busy, it is a big hospital so lot's of things going on at once.
They were perfect, except slow.
THE DR'S WERE FANTASTIC. MOST OF THE RN'S LEFT QUITE A BIT TO BE DESIRED. I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS BECAUSE I USUALLY HAD FAMILY THERE, BUT THERE WOULD BE HOURS BETWEEN CHECKS. A FEW TIMES WHICH PUT ME OVERDUE ON MY PAIN MEDS AND I COULDN'T REACH THE CALL BUTTON. EVEN THE PCA'S WERE KINDER AND MORE RESPONSIVE THAN 2 OUT OF THE THREE RN'S THAT WERE ASSIGNED TO ME. AND THE NURSE TO PATIENT RATIO WAS ABOUT 1:4 WHICH ISN'T BAD AT ALL.
I was hospitalized at Shands for my original surgery and then again at one month due to a stricture. I found the staff to be very accomodating and the care very good. I did have problems with the dietary staff - they struggled to get my diet correct in spite of repeated attempts to remedy the situation. Just as with any medical situation, you have to take an active part in seeing that your care is correct for you and you need to be your own advocate. But I found that requesting what I needed/wanted in a pleasant way (persistent if necessary) resulted in my needs being met by pleasant staff.
