In the 42 days there were definitely ups and downs for my care. When I was going into ICU I was treated so poorly by the nurse that I did everything to stay awake to tell my husband to keep the nurse away from me. 2 years and 4 months later I still have the remains of a bruise from her. There were 3 great nurses that cared for me during my entire stay. (According to my husband, as I do not remember a lot.) Some nurses would come in wearing perfume, causing me to throw up, we would let them know that this was happening and they would come back wearing it. (My doctor was in the room when it happened and asked why I threw up and that finally stopped.) The hospital was very clean, and the staff was very nice, but lacked knowledge of bariatric patients. I spent a lot of time in the radiology area and every one of them was great! The persons that take you to and from radiology need to learn how to maneuver the beds as I was slammed into several walls. My husband took better bedside care of me than most of the nurses, they did not know how to "unhook" me so that I could use the rest room and would tell me to "go in my bed", I would hold it until my husband came back and he would get me there. One nurse even forgot me in the bathroom, and I waited for about 1 hour for my husband to get there and help me back to bed. (He found her outside my room talking to a friend) There were lots of times that I thought that I would die, as did my Mom and husband. As I said before, I really do not know how this would have been handled elsewhere. My husband was my lifeline in there and without him I have no doubt that I would have been a patient that died. He was able to get into closed rooms and get parts for me in the middle of the night when no one else could or would, he made sure my sheets were clean, he encouraged me to get up to walk around, took me to the bathroom, he bathed me, he ensured that they were getting my medicines on time, and so many other things that I cannot count or remember. It was a month before I found out that I was in ICU for 5 days, (I thought it was a couple of hours.) Overall, I hope that the staff is more in tune to bariatric patients needs, the signs of leaks and are quicker to respond to them. I also suggest that patients ask for a copy of each days notes, they made me pay $180.00 for my medical records and it took a long time to get them, I was trying to make sense of what happened to me and why I was there for so long. I found them very insensitive when requesting the records. (I felt that it was the least that they could provide to a person that feels so lost and scarred about what happened, I just want to get better and find out if they would provided any answers on how to stop the pain that I have been in since the surgery.) They had the nerve to tell me that an attorney or another doctor could request them for free, but that I had to pay for them, one insult after another. These comments are my opinions, thoughts and memories, for additional information I would suggest contacting the hospital to find out what improvements and training their staff have gone through in the event that you are the unlucky patient in my position.

The hospital treated me like I was royalty. The staff was very responsive, very knowledgible and very gentle. I recommend this hospital and Dr. Waldrep very, very highly. I am very grateful to them.

What more can I say. They have valet parking which is a godsend to us who are morbidly obese. They have all private rooms and big gowns. They have oversize beds and chairs, but the food was lousy :)

Because of the amount of surgeries being performed, this hospital is well equiped for my type of surgery.

the hospital was excellent. Very clean, modern and the private rooms afforded to gastric bypass patients were wonderful. The layout was also very helpful to post-op needs, such as a circular hallway system allowing for ease in the important walking necessary after surgery. The best of the best as far as hospitals go!

The only bad experience I had was the wait before surgery. Surgery was delayed almost 4 hours and we weren't informed until we had been in the waiting room for 5 hours (We were told to arrive 2 hours before surgery). I was never offered anything for my nerves.

But aside from that, I felt well cared for by the doctors and the nursing staff.
