University Hospital Hospital

The university has been remodeled, it looks very fancy like the Methodist, only the care is like that of the old "Bexar County". I dealt with many staff that had been there over 15 to 20 years. There mind set was not very caring or warm. I was questioned about my pain because i experienced a great deal of pain. To my surprise, when they transfered me from recovery to the step down unit they unplugged my epidural. that was why I was in excruciating pain.
It was just a big nightmare, greatful that I survived & could not wait to go home.

Hospital was OK, but I couldn't wait to get out of there. Some of the nursing staff especially were so indifferent and lazy about answering call buttons, etc. One time, I waited 45 minutes for a response and she seemed extrememly irritated when she finally came in. This same nurse pulled my IV one day early and then seemed ticked off at me that she had to start a new one. She stuck me a total of 4 times and then walked away. She knew I was hurting. He replacement at shift change was kind and gentle and hit me the first time. People would pop in my room ALL of the time without knocking, grab rubber gloves over the sink and pop back out again...very annoying. This is a teaching hospital and the one medical student assigned to me to take my history and info each morning was an absolute angel. IF for bedside manner alone, she will be an awesome physician. Another resident was likewise kind, caring, and willing to listen.

I think in the out pt dept they need to be more sensitive to kids less than the age of 14.My son was in the waiting room being quiet and doing home work when they kicked my husband and son out of the waiting room and made them go down to admitting to wait. Unfortunately my surgeon and the nurses in out pt told my husband to wait in the waiting room.Granted there is a minimal chance of death and kids need to be reasurred their parents are ok. I think it is pretty sad that the patients have to pay to park their car inorder to go to a hospital, as if the bill isnt enough already.

The hospital was well equiped for overweight patients. They even had a specialty bed that was very comfortable...no back pain. It was rather hot in that bed because of the material it was made of. I felt very safe at this hospital because I know it is a major trauma center equipped to handle anything that could happen. I felt the staff did its very best to meet all my needs. The large number of resident drs assigned to the hospital are a real plus, most of them check on you consistently through out the day and if a nurse is hard to get a hold of most of the residents do not mind helping out or getting someone. My pain was vey well controlled through the morphine pump...I never really had to ask staff for help w/that...as a matter of a fact they would come and ask me if I was remembering to use my pump. Parking accomodations are pretty adecuate and close to the hosp. Overall I would rate this hospital as far above average and excellent in some respects.
