University of Minnesota Fairveiw (COE) Hospital

I was on a floor where mostly gastric bypass patients were. The nursing staff was excellent. I found it really neat that a nurses assistant who had this surgery a couple of years ago was working with the bariatric patients. He was able to give encouragement that I really needed at the time. All of the nursing staff understood my concerns and were excellent at taking what I said and getting me what I needed.

The staff on the floor of this particular unit was rude and not in the least understanding nor compassionate about those of us having this particular surgery. I found myself in tears on more than one occasion, and my sister reported the staff to the surgeon and to the hospital office staff in charge of patient relations.

It was very busy and noisy at all hours. Lots of people traffic. I was lucky in that I had a private room, however, I was not allowed to shut the door. There were staff constanstly outside of my door chatting. The care was very good. It is a teaching hospital so I do understand all the people. I didn't get to see my regular surgeon, however, his team was in and out throught each day and very attentive to my needs. Overall, it was not a bad experience. Just not restful.
