Who benefited from DSers posting on other forums?

I had never heard of the DS before coming to OH. I actually would never even have heard of it here either if I hadn't read a surgery war thread. I am VERY thankful to have been made aware of the DS prior to having surgery. Since that thread, I have changed surgeries and changed surgeons!
I for one am THANKFUL for surgery wars in different threads(RYN, lap band etc) as it was the only way that this pre-op truly found out about all of my options!

Actually I knew about and had chosen the DS before I even heard of OH ,*BUT* It was a surgery war that I had heard about that led me to OH to begin with. There was a big uproar about the vergito, rny and DS. I was on another forum and they were posting links to the thread. The nosy person in me had to find out what it was all about. I read and kept my nose out of it BUT I start lurking on the DS boards. LEARNING!!!.... The more I read the more I KNEW I was making the right choice in choosinbg the DS. I have learned so much over the past year and continue to learn. I have been waiting for 1 and 1/2 years to have my DS and switched Doctors when my original DS doctor could no longer do the DS at my hospital. I have chose to Drive 5 hours away and have the DS with a new doctor the drive 4 miles from my home and have the RNY. That's how BAD I want my DS. I will do whatever necessary to get my WLS choice. I hope you take the time to learn as I did. You won't regret it.

 I would never have even considered the DS until I was hooked by the Surgery Wars.  I was scheduled for an RNY last September and after seeing that life with a DS wasn't as bad as I had previously read I cancelled the RNY and put major research into the DS.  The result of this is that I am as of today finally scheduled to have my DS on June 28th!  I just want to thank everyone who posts on the DS board, you guys all gave me such hope and inspiration.  
So a great big thank you to all the "rabid DSers" who pay it forward daily!  I certainly feel much more at ease with my decision to get switched than I ever did with my decision to get an RNY.

Yep. I was done with testing and insurance approval and was scheduled for RNY in less than two weeks when I was wrangled over here from the Main board by some sh*t throwing surgery war. The post I remember most had a signature with something to the effect of "I eat 3000 calories a day and only absorb 1500". I didn't know about the DS at that point, but those words were definitely enough to pique my interest to learn more. So I researched everything I could and ultimately decided I didn't want to deal with the RNY pouch and it's limitations, bleeding ulcers, stoma issues and anorexic-sized portions. So now, I'm heading over to the dark side.

I've learned much more than the 3000/1500 calorie deal, and I think I will come to  the DS, eventually.

I lived with my RNY for 6.5 years. I had a complication due to the added prolene mesh band around the top of my stoma. I was sick and tired of damaging my esophagus due to constant reflux and vomiting.

I was compliant, I lived the RNY life. I kept off 100 lbs, but never made it to goal.  My RNY surgeon stopped practicing and sent out a list of other recommended surgeons who understood our specific procedure, so we could have follow-ups.

I was looking at the revision board and talking to people about ERNY, but got a lot of info given to me about the DS. I've always been open-minded, I don't buy into the whole surgery wars thing. I probably would have had a DS in 2003 if it had been offered. Anyway, more and more people told me about RNY to DS revisions and talked about how it changed their lives.

One of the doctors on the list from my previous surgeon was Dr. Greenbaum, who is a revision specialist. I went in to talk to him about removing the ring, and he explained quite a bit to me. I decided that the info I'd received online about the DS, combined with the info from Dr. Greenbaum, made the DS the best choice for me.

I can't tell you enough how happy I am. I eat without barfing. I can eat a high-fat diet and not worry about regain. I always did better on an Atkins style diet, so this is great. I also know that I can have the occasional bit of sugar without dumping. I am truly looking forward to the cake at my 25th anniversary party.

I am only 4 months out from my revision and I've already lost 50% of the excess body weight. I am on target to get below goal, not that I need to be that skinny, but it's amazing. I am almost at my original RNY goal (168) and I'm looking forward to reaching my DS goal (130).

Every day I want to thank the people on here who talked to me - people like Kerry, Debbie M., RenFaireWench and all the others who told me to seriously consider the DS.

In May of 2009 I had my watershed moment when I decided to look seriously into WLS.  I was on the main forum and stumbled into a surgery war.  THANK GOODNESS.

I remember going through a "this is too good to be true" phase and that Kerry wrote me a very blunt post (something about me saying I thought I needed dumping to be sucessful~so you can see how uninformed I was) and that just made me do even more research.

One I realized that I could actually have surgery somewhere other than in my nearest RNY mill I was on my way.

I thank the vets who posted on the main forum back then every single day.  THANK YOU.  THANK YOU.

I hope that I too have helped just one person learn about the DS who otherwise would not have known about it or would have believed the lies that some physician told them about it.

I think the surgery wars are one of the most important things that happen here on OH.

Well that and cruises. 

When I was seeking a revision Val and Diana Cox prompted me to come to the DS board and I am so thankful they did.  I love my DS and I am grateful everyday that I was so blessed.

I've posted a few times here but I know most of you don't know me. I was basically ran away from BE for sticking up for someone who wasn't doing well with rny and then came to OH and saw LeaAnn causing trouble with some folks on the main board (thanks LeaAnn), but that's when I found my way here. I gave up trying to fight for ds and jumped on what my insurance was offering which was a distal. Now over a year later I'm right back here once again failing with an rny. At least this time though I have a consult with Dr K in Delano. I go this week so wish me luck.

I know I know think twice cut once or at least I think that's the saying.

I found the DS because of a surgery war on the RNY board. I can't thank those DSers enough for coming and sharing their stories and showing another path to lose weight that i had never heard of before.

I came here in November and was looking for more info on the RNY I had sheduled in December 09. I came across a surgery war and Diana and Kerry were stating facts.

The more I read the more I realized that the RNY wasn't for me. I was then invited over to the DS board.

I ended up canceling my RNY and started looking for a DS surgeon. It took me a few more months to do the DS pre op appointments but it was well worth the wait. I am now scheduled for next month for my DS.

I'd rather be stinky then feel like I'm dying after a bite of ice cream or cake. I am blessed to have met up with the war. I say keep it up because without the PAY IT FORWARD attitude I would have been stuck with a surgery I was scared about doing in the first place.
