I've already had my psyche eval and I'll do my pre-op group sessions next week and the week after that I'll have my medical clearance for surgery.  So I'll probably meet with the surgeon the end of the month and have my surgery in Jan.  Super excited!!!

SUGGESTION: Arrive to your seminar 30 minutes early if you can, that way you'll get a surgeon appointment early.  I got their right on time and I didn't have my first appointment for 3 weeks and there were some people there that had appointments the following week.  Also, whenever you have your other appointments, always double check where your appointment is suppose to be.  I had a medical clearance appointment on the 23rd of November and their offices where closed (found that out when I arrived and read the note on the door) only to find out that I was suppose to meet my doctor at the hospital...which I found out much later he was also closed that day.  Make sure you confirm your appointment the day before if they don't.

Also, I had a medical clearance scheduled for the same day I had my psyche eval.  I sat there for 20 min only to find out that you can't have 2 appointments for the same day, which really pissed me off because THEY are the one that scheduled me.  So my medical clearance appointment was pushed another 2 weeks.  This is why I say always confirm your appointments and make sure they don't double book you.

Good luck!  I look forward to reading more about your journey!!!

Cool!  If you're going to Mercy, get to the seminar 30 min early.  I got their right on time and I got my first surgeon visit 3 weeks later where some people had their first visit the next week.

Also, always confirm your appointments.  I've had 2 appointments for my medical clearance and couldn't be seen.  Once the office was closed and the other time I couldn't be seen by 2 doctors in the same day.  I had my pych eval that morning and my medical clearance appointment right after that and was turned away.

Next week I have my pre-op group sessions and my medical clearance appointment the week after that.  I will probably be meeting with my surgeon to schedule surgery the end of December and having my surgery in January.  I'm very excited!

I look forward to following your journey!  Lets keep in touch!

Hello,

I just want to let everyone know that Mount Sinai Hospital (close to downtown) has a new Bariatric Center.  And the best part is ... they take MEDICAID/PUBLIC AID - a tough find in the city so I wanted to get the word out to anyone this can help!

I met the Surgeon (who's easy to talk to) and they have cookng classes and exercise programs geared towards Bariatric patients.

You can get more info about them by calling 773-257-2020 or email their coordinator at weight.loss@sinai.org.

I'm really excited to have this new option with IDPA and I am hoping to have my surgery in the next few months@ and will keep everyone posted.

Take Care,
Ashley

Hi Donna!

sorry for the late response ... there is NO WAIT LIST at Mount Sinai's bariatric program.  They have regular orientation sessions that give you all the info you need.  You can find the next one by calling 773-257-2020 or email then at weight.loss@sinai.org

Good luck!

Thanks for responding. I called Mount Sinai Bariatic clinic and they only take Illinois medicaid. I went to my infor session at The university of Chicago last week. I don't go for evaluation until Sept 2011 but I am a little scared because I have just been dx: with diabetes three week ago and I have four months to lose weight or i will be on medication or shots. I can tell the symptoms in my legs.

When I went to the info session meeting on 12th of April. Many of the people there where looking at me like I shouldn't be there. Yes, I am only 205lbs and I am 5'3 but guess what my body can't take my body size. Obesity doesn't mean you have to be 300 lbs +. It means that your body mass is causing to much stress  your over all health. I have felt the disappointment of being over weight,  viewed by  thinner people but i didn't think I would feel over weight by obesic people until April 12, 2011. It hurt and I felt uncomfortable but then i thought about what was important: My life. So I didn't care what anyone thought as long as I could make my life better and healther.

I am on medicaid and am looking to see about having a revision done. I had the gastric bypass done 6 years ago and lost about 120 lbs and have gained back about 50 lbs of it. Do you know any doctors in Illinois or in the St. Louis area that accepts the medical card and how hard is it get medicaid to approve you for a revision? I have tried a diet under a drs care as well as being put on phentrimine ,etc to try to lose the extra weight. I lose it to only gain it right back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

Did you have to have 6 months of supervised weight loss by your Primary Care Physician before getting approved by Illinois medical card?
