Thanks Kristie - I guess I'm pretty lucky that it's Tramacet that I'm taking since it's okay to take.

I take tramacet with no issues and i'm a year post RNY - it was my migraine drug of choice pre RNY too,  T3's and AC&C (the kind with tylenol just ask the pharmacist as they are behind the counter) are all okay to take too. So is percocet (seeing it was prescribed for me post RNY).

you don't want to take ac&c as its aspirin with codeine, you can get tylenol 1's otc from your pharmacist if you ask.

I was very specific in how i worded my post - intentionally -  I said to Ask for the AC&C that has tylenol

Sure you can take tylenol # 1 and pay a fortune (hugely more expensive - 5 x) or you can pay a lot less and ask for (at least at shoppers) - Acetaminophen, Caffiene and Codeine Phospate tablets.  I ask for AC&C when i ask for that  and alwasy specify i want the version with Tylenol - i just double check when i get it and make sure its the tylenol version. Never had a problem and saved a fortunte over the name brand.

In case you don't believe me the DIN for this product is 02251914 - and it is not an NSAID. It is kept behind the counter. One i didn't check and got the aspirin virsion but didn't open it.

Ok but in your wording you say to ask for ac&c, that is aspirin with codeine.   Tylenol #1 with codeine or it's generic equivalent (acetaminophen) are two different things.  We get people coming in and asking for ac&c all the time mistakenly.  Yes i do agree that getting the name brand tylenol is 5x more expensive which is why we steer people towards the generic.  As a side note we sell the generic tylenol and ac&c for the same price.  If you came home once with the aspirin version it's because you purposely asked for it.  Don't believe me do a google search.  Not trying to be snarky but want to ensure people are getting the correct information.

point taken but what i said was to ask for 'ac&c the kind with tyelenol' and done so far ages for and never been corrected at the drug store. i've always double checked the first 'a' is for acetaminaphin. Supposedly i should ask for acetaminaphen caffiene and coedine but i've always done it my way and always checked.

Tramacet is not an NSAID, so safe to take after WLS. It is acetaminophen based just like Tylenol.

Good post, some great answers some others. . . not so much.

Doctors and surgeons are specialists in medicine and the surgeries they perform. . .many are good with the medication side of it as well, while others. . . Personally I would prefer a surgeon who knows the procedure and can perform it with his eyes closed (not that I'd want him to!) over a physician who knew every med in the CPS and could remember my personal sensitivities.

Although the answers on this thread are pretty sound it too is not the optimal resource for your pharmaceutical questions either.

The best resource to answer this question is your pharmacist.  Medications, their classification, absorption and fate is their specialty.  Its important that you use one pharmacy only, and if you go to a new pharmacy ensure they are aware you cannot take NSAIDS or Tryptons, or Aerosol inhalers (what ever drug precautions you may have).  Your file will be flagged and if by chance something you can't take gets prescribed that restriction pops up and the pharmacist takes care of getting it substituted for something you can take.

*Example:  I am allergic to Erythromycin, when Biaxin first came out it was prescribed for me to treat an upper respiratory infection. . .took it to the pharmacy, pharmacist entered it and would not fill the prescription as Biaxin is a third generation Erythromycin.

Summary, forums are a great place to scout out info, however the final denominator should always be the "expert in the field" in the case of medication. . . a pharmacist.

Thanks for that info, Oknee - it makes perfect sense that your pharmacist would be the one to ask as he's the expert on pharmaceuticals. I use the Costco pharmacy & Dominic, the pharmacist there is fantastic! He will call me at home if he feels that I should know something about my meds - he really goes the extra distance! I will definitely check with him about this.

I would say ask your pharmacist, since they deal with the drugs everyday.
