What to have on hand for when you get home?

So other than protein drinks and vitamins, what did YOU have on hand for when you came home from surgery?

Did you make and freeze any foods for when you move to the pureed stage??

I lived off s/f popsicles for the first couple days. They went down very well and made me feel a lot better! Also crystal light, jello, herbal caffine free tea!

Good Luck!

Broth, boullion, tea, apple juice and Sobe zero calorie fruit drinks.  The warm drinks really settled my stomach, and the fruit drinks tasted so good, but I had to drink them at room temp for a little while.

I would recommend Gatorade G-2. Once I started drinking this, I started feeling much better.

Popsicles are a life savor
Gas strips or meds are a must!
I wouldn't have survived without a recliner chair.

I would agree with everything from previous post, also maybe some broth. I would also have skim milk or soy milk on hand for protein powders that maybe don't taste as good after surgery with jus****er.

I also enjoyed tomato soup made with Mootopia for the protein.    Good for a savory flavor after all the sweet protein stuff.
If you can have it, Greek yogurt is great, too.

Many thanks! I'm making my shopping list now

I'm a little concerned because we don't have a recliner and our couch is one of those that eats you up. I am going to get a little step stool for the bed as ours is really tall.

Thanks so much!

For me, I just couldn't sit up because of my rolls (lol) and how my incisions were made. If I sit up, my rolls push together and put a lot of pressure on my incisions. It probably wouldn't be that way for most people.

Since everyone has covered the food/drink supplies - here are some medical things to consider...

Gauze pads, medical tape, thermometer.  A hug pillow (small pillow) to brace your tummy with when you need to cough, sneeze, get up, etc.

A recliner is nice too for sleeping in right after surgery (don't have to get up and down out of bed.

I agree sugar free popsicles are a must.  I have found that the "popsicle" brand are the best.  when I got to advance to full liquids and could have SF pudding I put my vanilla protein powder in with the skim milk to make the pudding!!!  Recently I have been adding sugar free coffee flavoring (Kahlua, carmel, brown sugar cinnamon) to my vanilla protein shake.  YUMMY!!!!!

Good Luck!  Remember:  sip, walk, rest, repeat!
