Hi Everyone!  I have a question.  I am 5 weeks post op and I've noticed a pattern with me & wondered if anyone else has had the same problem.  Whenever I eat anything "high fat", even the slightest, within like 20 minutes, I have severe horrible diarrhea.  Which normally doesn't stop until like the following day sometime.
Let me give you an example.  I was at a BBQ and I thought I would just eat part of a cheeseburger without the bun.  Well, the burger was one of those pre-packaged patties and kinda greasy....and boy was I sick afterwards.  And this weekend was my wedding anniversary and we stayed all weekend at a casino, so I had to eat there all weekend.  I ordered a turkey club and was just going to eat the turkey.  Well, the turkey was dry so I just put a little mayo on it ...and 20 minutes later...GONE.  Not throwing up, just horrible diarrhea.  Its like my body is telling me, no extra fat!!!  I mean, I'm not complaining, I guess it is kind of a good thing because now I'm terrified of eating anything remotely bad for me.  And it isn't like I'm sensitive to food, because I can eat spicy chili with no problems, etc.  just fattening foods seem to be an issue.  Just wondering if anyone has experienced this.  Sorry for the long post
Thanks!!!!

I'll bet you'll find this easier the farther out you are.  For now I would take it as a sign to stay on the straight and narrow.  It sure makes will power much less of an issue!  Let's call it a blessing.

Hugs to you, and keep up the good work.

I agree with MomtoAndy...it will more than likely straighten out someday, but until it does stay away from items that are higher in fat.  You are still pretty early out.  I think it takes some time for our bodies to adjust to processing foods again.  I know we only shrank our tummy, but our body is still pushing the same amount of acid and such trying to process large amounts of food and I am sure it takes time for it to slow things down a bit.  That is why I think some of us have a bit of dumping syndrome or have a hard time with certain foods. I still can't seem to handle raw veggies and salad.  Course I am not a scientist or doctor, just my two cents.

Hii Brenda, I haven't had my surgery yet, but I met with my nutritionist the other day and she told me that she has about 10 clients who have been sleeved and that almost all of them have reported this kind of thing in the first few months after surgery. She said it's really just like RNY patients experience 'dumping' syndrom. Your body is very much used being treated to small portions of easily digestable low fat foods. If you throw in something that doesn't belong whether it's something that is high sugar content or more grease/fat than your tummy has gotten used to then your body will want to 'dump' it as quickly as possible. She said for sleeve patients this does fade with time, but for now, use it to your advantage and try to stay away from those things! Good luck!

I've had my gall bladder removed, and this happens to me with lots of different foods that are rich and fatty.    Pre-op, I could manage a homemade burger and fries, but couldn't eat deli meat or mayo..
It may be a gall bladder issue, or if it's removed --  you may find out like I did -- that it doesn't take long to realize what your tummy can handle or will quickly reject.

All the best!

Also agree with Momlo. Probably just your body reacting to the fat. I have not had that proglem yet and I have tried to stay on the straight and narrow. Might want to check with your doc if it persists.
