First of all, congrats! Secondly, the type of protein that you end up using will be definitely based on your taste preferences. This varies widely between different people.

First of all, I'd try to search this site. There have been several times people have posted ways to get free samples.

Max Protein: Recommended on eggface.com. Low calories, low carbs, High protein (choc or vanilla. Sold in some GNC stores or online).

Unjury: I don't know anything about this brand but a lot of people seem to like it.

Isagenix: This is a great microfiltered undenatured protein. It is all organic. I love it. Many people feel it has to high of a carb content. I've read a lot about it and like it.

EAS Carb Control: 17 gms Protein, 2 gms carbs. You can buy this at Target. I don't think the quality is that great but it is pre-made. I used this a lot when I first went back to work. I'm moving from location to location a lot. I found it helpful to have a pre-made option in my refrigerator. It is more of a chocolate milk consistency. I used this more as a supplement protein drink early on.

I hope that helps!

your tastes will vary so much after surgery that you don't want to stock up too much beforehand.  i am not sure about a liquid multivitamin, but definitely a chewable.  i used flinstone complete with iron.  i also purchased calcium citrate (not calcium carbonate) petites by citracal

The Costco shakes are the Premier Protein shakes. 30g protein in an 11 oz shake. I'm drinking one right now, actually. They're the only shakes I've had since surgery, and I've been overall pretty happy with them. They can be too thick or too thin depending on the box you get, but the taste is better than any I've had so far. I've always stuck with premade shakes since I drink them at work and don't want to break out a blender or try to mix one up, but others buy tons of different types to get a little variety in.
