Well folks, Sept. 30th. was 3 Years !!!!

I weigh 148lbs.-152lbs. for almost 2 years now.

Photo-Jimbo

This
doesn't happen at 350lbs.

I had been casually working on a 3 year post for about a month...... Well, it got way long and of a tone that didn’t feel right.

In a lot of ways it feels like just yesterday and other ways feels like ten years since my surgery.......

What’s my biggest observation at 3 years out........???

Freedom from FAT.......and Discovery!

I knew, but I didn’t really realize how Fat affected my life........Mentally, Physically and Medically.

I not only see it in myself..... I see it here and in my WL peeps I see IRL..... Freedoms and Discoveries

Sure, life has other issues...... but Fat is one BIG one off the list.....

I have a much higher sensitivity to the Big....When I see someone that is Obese and I see the certain mannerisms and how they react to certain situations I can so identify and know exactly what they are thinking and feeling while other are oblivious.

With these freedoms come new and renewed experiences, which can be severely limiting as an Obese person.

Key Stats:

  • Highest Recorded Weight: 352lbs.
  • Start Weight: 338lbs.
  • First Goal: 175lbs. in 11 Months
  • Eventual Goal: 148lbs. in 14 months

Total WL: 204lbs.

Post VSG WL: 190lbs. in 13 Months.

- BMI 54 to 23.9

  • Waist 54" to 31"
  • Shirt 4x to S/M
  • Shoes 10 to 8.5-9
  • Suit 38 (didn’t have a suit at my heaviest)

Surgeon- Dr. Paul Cirangle/LapSF.com

Procedure- Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

Hospital- CPMC-San Francisco

I had the best procedure by the best VSG Surgeon....... What else can you say about a guy that helps you get your life back?

He has been there every step of the way......and at 3 years out, he is still there and at my “Beck and Call" if I need him.

For those starting this process or struggling....... You gotta try..... you gotta try hard....you gotta put your best effort forward. The more you get this thing dialed in while your in WL mode......the easier maintenance is going to be to figure out. And I can tell you for sure....... In the big picture..... WL is the easy part. So exciting as motivation is high and the scale is moving down and your shrinking into smaller clothes every week.....

Maintenance is kinda boring and all about implementing what you learned during WL and continued education with resolve.

The most common failure to this process and the most common success is based on the same thing...... Commitment and Compliance..... without it..... your done.... not gonna happen......You truly get out of this.... what you put into it.....

General Suggestions:

  • Always under eat your sleeve capacity. Eat fixed/measured amounts of food that is under your sleeve capacity. Eating till your full is how we got fat.

  • Choose a VSG surgeon by experience and results. Not all sleeves are created equal, this is a non-standardized procedure. Remember, this procedure has an average of 50-60% EWL. You increase your chances by choosing a Surgeon that has a higher WL average.

  • Seek medical advise from a doctor, not an open online public forum.

- Aftercare and continued education is key to long term success.

  • Don’t believe everything you read on this forum.

I got my life back........ and it’s great !!!!

I wish that everybody who takes this on, or any other WLS the same !!!!

Congratulations!  You rock and I agree with every word of your post, but why should today be any different?  You have this, you have always had this.  Thank you for all you do here and in RL to help and support others.

The first gig that is confirmed is for Dec. 7th.  It is in a cool restaurant/bar and there is a dance floor.  I am thinking of organizing an OH event there.  What do you think?  I just found out that the band's lead singer also had WLS.  I really like her, she has a great voice and loving spirit.  I think you would really like her too.
