I am almost 9 months post op... and have been at a stall for like 2 months. I am -63lb and I'm working on my last 45lb but the scale isn't moving at all!!

The beginning of January I started working out 5-6 days a week 1-2hrs a day... burning anywhere from 500-1000cal a day. I do weights, spin classes, toning classes, cross fit, c25k & sprint intervals on my treadmill.. so i do a variety of different things.   I use MFP to track everything... I currently have it set to eat 1200cal a day and I aim for 60-90g protein a day. what am I doing wrong?! am I not eating enough calories bc I am burning so many a day by working out? is my body in starvation mode? help me out!!!! need to get to my 1 year surgivercy goal of -100 or close to it!   sarah

I would cut the calories back to 800.  That is what I aim for at 9 months out and am still losing slowly.  I would forget thinking about eating more because of the exercise until you reach maintenance.  We are close on numbers though.

Someone asked this same question today in my doctor's support group.  He said he had this issues with many patients and he recommended they bump up their protein intake to 100 grams per day and he has seen them starting to lose weight like crazy again.  When you work out like that your body requires more protein.  I hope this helps.

Maybe you are gaining muscle weight?

First off: WAY TO GO!!!!  I love hearing about your inner athlete just shining all over the place.  You must feel amazing and strong!!  In terms of your weight loss, I have a few thoughts:

1) Are you measuring yourself?  You may be trading bulky fat for less bulky but heavier muscle.  Reducing measurements are your best indicator for that.

2) 2 months is a long time to go without any weight loss.  I'm leary of the "starvation mode" diagnosis, but in any case there should be some trial and evaluation in your future.  Either add calories or cut calories and see what happens.  Adding calories has the potential to backfire.

3) You could really focus on staying closer to 90 on the protein and upping your water a LOT, and seeing if that has any effect before you change your caloric intake.

Good luck!  You are doing such a great job!

You do need to reduce your caloric intake because 1200 is usually maintenance.

If you're eating 1200 cals a day and your burning 1000..then you're effectively only getting 200 calories on those days.  I would think..and anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong..that you're body might have gone into starvation mode.  Maybe you can experiment with lowering the amount you burn every day or cutting it down to 4 to 5 days?  I also wonder if maybe seeing a nutritionist and getting their opinion might be worth a shot.

not starvation mode but she isnt fueling her body enough for it to do its job...     the closer we get to normal BMI, the more the "VSG" rules of 600-800 calories become counter-productive....There arent anymore "reserves" of fat for our bodies to subsidize with...  a NET of 200 calories barely gives you enough calories for basic brain function let alone all of our other bodily functions....

Starvation mode is nonsense. She still has 65 pounds to lose, so there are lots of reserves left to burn. The body does not hold on to fat and lower the metabolism. Fat exists to burn when intake drops, that is the whole point. If you eat at a deficit, you will burn fat and lose weight.

I burned more every day than I ate for many months. I had enough fat so that I could do that.

Weight loss is not a straight line. Stick to the plan. You will continue to lose.

Do you weigh or measure your food when you log? Weighing is much more accurate than measuring. If you are using measuring cups I guarantee you are eating more than you think.
