Cereal?

Absolutely. We all have to know our triggers and limitations. If one is a binge eater or has a food addiction then absolutely moderation isn't usually an option.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but imho, foods that provide nothing nutritional are BAD for us. There is no reason to eat anything that doesn't benefit our nutritional and health needs. Thinking that moderation is going to work for those of us who were morbidly obese is just going to put us back on that path that got us here in the first place.

I am a cereal lover too, but had to drop most all cereal types. I do still eat Fiberone (the Trader Joe version) and Kashi Go Lean. Fiberone helps a whole lot with the fiber and the cals are very low. Kashi Go Lean has a lot of protein in a cup and is super filling. I won't touch other types because the nutrition stats are awful on them and cereal can get triggery for me otherwise.

I find it interesting how people come up with so many reasons that it's okay to eat food that is...for lack of a better word...crap.

I was right up there with the biggest carb addicts ever, eating nothing but pizza, pasta, rice, cereal, bread, potatoes, sweets and junk food. Very little of what I ate had any redeeming nutritional value. It made me SMO for 30+ years, gave me hypertension and depression, ruined my knees and my back, and turned me into a recluse. I probably would have died a not-old-enough, fat hermit, had I not been diagnosed with diabetes on top of all that. THAT was when I knew if I didn't do something, I was absolutely on my way to dying younger than I should.

With determination I cut out all bad carbs from my diet. And post surgery, my program also said I could have whole grain breads and cereal and stuff like that. I tried a little bread at the beginning, but decided it wasn't worth it. And since 2 months out from surgery, I haven't had a piece of bread, a potato, or any simple or processed carbs. The one thing I allow myself every day is 7g of Fiber One cereal in my yogurt (that's about 2 tbsp) for the added fiber (and the crunch is nice).

Things like bowls of cereal and pizza and all that stuff...that is the stuff that made me SMO; I have no intention of letting it back into my life again. It's not worth it. I was never a binge eater and I don't trigger on those things, but carbs make you hungry for more carbs, that's a fact. It's a slippery slope, and not one I'm willing to go down.

Oh, and one more thing...I strongly disagree with whoever it was that said there are no "BAD" foods. Oh, yes there are...tons of them. No nutritional value, no value to health, damaging amounts of sugar, chemicals, additives, or any number of other awful ingredients.

There are NO weird questions with WLS Thankfully we have this site to guide and encourage each other. Yes, I do snack on dry cereal. My favorite is Kashi, which is sort of like a box of granola. I chew, chew, chew to be sure it's all blended well before I swallow. Hope this helps. I will go for my 7th annual checkup this October. All is well with me and 140 pounds are gone forever.
