Speed of weight loss after surgery
Hi Everyone,
I haven't yet had surgery..I'm leaning towards RNY. My question is, how fast did you lose weight..what amount per week/month? I know it's different for everyone but I'd like to know on average what I can expect.
I've been healthy dieting since April of this year and have managed to lost 40 pounds. I'm still a far cry from my goal, but feeling fairly positive today after that weigh in!
My surgeon said three to five pounds per week was average, though some people seem to lose more in the beginning. It's also common to have stalls where you lose nothing for several weeks or even longer. I also read somewhere that people generally lose about half their excess weight by six months post op, so if you need to lose 100 pounds, you could expect to be down 50 by six months out, while if you have 200 pounds to lose, you could expect to be down 100 pounds by six months out. It really does vary a lot from person to person, though.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.

Very interesting, I am a few weeks ahead of the curve, that is encouraging.
Thanks
