Hi Everyone,

I haven't yet had surgery..I'm leaning towards RNY. My question is, how fast did you lose weight..what amount per week/month? I know it's different for everyone but I'd like to know on average what I can expect.

I've been healthy dieting since April of this year and have managed to lost 40 pounds. I'm still a far cry from my goal, but feeling fairly positive today after that weigh in!

My surgeon said three to five pounds per week was average, though some people seem to lose more in the beginning.  It's also common to have stalls where you lose nothing for several weeks or even longer.  I also read somewhere that people generally lose about half their excess weight by six months post op, so if you need to lose 100 pounds, you could expect to be down 50 by six months out, while if you have 200 pounds to lose, you could expect to be down 100 pounds by six months out.  It really does vary a lot from person to person, though.

search weight loss planner on here and punch in your numbers and see what it says. It was spot on for me the first couple of months now I'm ahead of it. But it at least gives you an estimation. I am 5.5 mo out and down 97 pounds, 10 preop.
