For peace of mind

I have wanted to get my insurance benefits in writing but have never remembered to ask the customer service reps when I call them. I just realized that I can view all my benefits online through Highmark's website. I have it in writing that bariatric surgery is covered! I have called Highmark about six times during my pre-op process, and the reps have all given me the same answer: yes, the surgery is covered. I'm just glad I have it in actual writing, now.

I did call Highmark today and asked the girl if I needed to have lost a specific amount of weight over the six months, and she said no. I was worried about that because I have heard that some people need to lose 10% or some other amount of weight. This just goes to show that all insurances are different; you have to call and ask about YOUR plan.

This whole process has made me paranoid, and I just need to let my mind rest and realize that as long as I follow the guidelines, everything will fall into place. Fingers crossed that this next month is smooth!

Make sure you ask them to send you a copy of their medical necessity coverage criteria. That will tell you exactly what they will be looking for to determine if they will approve coverage for you.

Good luck, and hang in there... it'll happen if you have all your ducks in a row... which it looks like you do!

Time goes so slowly waiting for surgery... I know, I was there not that long ago! Now I'm waiting for pureed foods! hahaha!

When I first started this journey back in October, I was thinking it would go very slowly, but it actually has gone fast. I'm at the "oh, crap, surgery is soon" phase. It seems like there is nothing for a long time, and then all of a sudden, BAM, you need to submit everything.
