$47,000 for my surgery!? *faints*

I just got my bill/EOB for my RNY surgery, and the surgery/hospital stay cost my insurance provider $47,000+.  Holy cow!  That was incredibly shocking, considering that I got an estimate for $12,000.  Luckily, I am only on the hook for approx $850.00, but still!  That seems crazy high to me-- anyone else?

My conversion from sleeve to RNY was $121,000 for the surgery and a 3 night hospital stay.

I never even got an EOB. Sometimes my insurance sends me them, sometime not. I only had to pay my $150 inpatient co pay. I did get a bill for anesthesia at one point, they said the provider wasn't covered, but I also got a letter from insurance stating they were reviewing that again. Haven't heard from either the hospital or insurance so I guess they worked it out.

$12k is what my surgeon billed insurance, and it was for her office only and not the hospital.  You may get another EOB for the surgeon's bill, too.  For the record, I think they paid out 1/4 of that, but the bill is usually much higher than what they actually get.

Boy you are blessed,  My surgeon's bill which I got yesterday was a little over $12K and I have to pay a little over $900.  That's just for the surgeon.  After that, I'm liable for another $4K out of pocket that the insurance won't cover because they consider it elective even with a heart condition.  What ticks me off is not the amount so much is that they won't count it towards my out-of-pocket.  Where in the heck do they think it's coming from?  It's coming from MY pocket.  I had to laugh, when I got to the hospital that morning and was registering, the lady asked me if I wanted to pay my $4,000 now?    Bwahahahahaha.  Oh sure, wait just a minute while I did for my wallet........oh wait, I'm sorry I left the $4000 on the dining room table.....sorry.

I don't think that I've gotten the entire bill yet-- folks are telling me there is still another bill for the surgeon coming.  *bites nails*

LOL.  Probably not.  I don't understand why they just can't send ONE bill that covers everything.  This crap about sending everything separate then you don't know what the heck you're being charged for.
