9 Months Post-Op with Pictures

I can't believe it's been nine months since my surgery.  Just have to say- I haven't regretted it for a minute! I have lost 103lbs which has put me under my original goal by 7lbs.  I feel amazing-  My joints no longer hurt every time I move.  My knees used to hurt me when I went up and down stairs and my feet felt like they were on fire when I would first walk on them each morning.  Not to mention, I no longer have to roll out of bed.

My mental health has improved immensely! I'm no longer embarrassed to be seen and actually enjoy going out AND having my picture taken.  I have tons of energy and need much less sleep.

All of my blood work looks great except for my cholesterol which appears to be heavily influenced by my genetics and not my eating habits.  I will need to continue taking statins to manage it.

I was doing really great with exercise during the summer but I have not been exercising since I went back to work in September (I'm a teacher).  Not a great excuse--- I spend a lot of time watching Netflix when I could be working out.  I'm just going to say it--- I HATE EXERCISING! There-- brutal honesty.

Eating is going well most of the time.  Again with the honesty-- I do not record what I eat or count calories (I already know what you are going to say.  Say it if it makes you feel better).  My clinic recommends paying attention to portion size, eating protein first, and choosing items with less than 10 grams of fat and sugar rather than counting calories and keeping records.  Pretty simple and works well for me.

I have been struggling a bit with all of the holiday treats around and look forward to having them out of my life again.  One more celebration to get through tonight and i will be back on track.  I have been eating sugar which I have not done since my surgery.  No dumping here which is a little disappointing to me because I hoped it would be the kick in the ass I would need to "stay clean."  Not so easy-- I will need to get myself back on track.

I met with a dear friend of mine for lunch the other day.  She is also considering weight loss surgery and I encouraged her to join our little group here.

I would just like to thank all of you for all of the great information and support over the past nine months! Happy New Year to all of you.

Congratulations!

I'm definitely of the mind set do what works for you. As long as it's working for you and you're being honest with yourself. I wish you'd find some type of activity you like, cause it's important for your overall health. Losing weight is just 1/2 of the picture.

You look great.

I don't track, either, unless I am up a few pounds and then I do until I lose it again. Do not become one of those people who gain and swear they are not doing anything differently. You don't know how much you are eating unless you weigh or measure and track every bite.

Congrats on reaching your goal. Now the hard part begins.

That is great advice and just what I need to hear!  I weigh myself every morning and plan to continue so that I do not let myself get out of control again.  I have a Fitbit scale that sends the information straight to my account so I can keep track.  I find this really helpful.
