Date night doldrums

My husband and I are missing our date night routine. But what do you do when you aren't drinking and are barely eating and the weather isn't yet conducive to anything outdoors. No movies either. The only reason I go to the theater is for popcorn. Otherwise I'd rather watch at home. We go to concerts and the theater but those things are planned in advance.

Any suggestions for spur of the moment date night?

I know you said no movies, but I wanted to share that I love going to the movies and was able to mentally separate the need to have popcorn from the movie experience. Don't let food keep you from doing something you used to like! I enjoy seeing things on the giant screen where I'm not distracted by my iPad, the phone, or my home surroundings. I don't even think about popcorn there anymore. It's cheaper this way and you don't have to stand in that long line...

You are fairly recent on your surgery. I promise the date night thing can and will get back to normal. I am over two years post op and hubby and I try to do date night at least once per month and many times twice per month.

we have just learned to go out for small plates or share a steak. I take home leftovers and eat them for several meals. Most restaurants are accommodating, some charge a nominal split fee.

i even enjoy a glass of wine every once in a while. Hubby doesn't drink.

we also do the movies and I will grab an ounce of nuts to take in with me if I feel I gotta have something but honestly I usually never even touch them. It is all about getting your head right. Don't make it about the food, focus on the conversation.

we will be married 30 years this fall and honestly our dates have become so much more fulfilling since it isn't so much about the food. It was hard for me at first but I learned how to use that time so differently.

You make a good point about food and alcohol. I'm just learning to eat solids again. This too shall pass.

I love the point about using time differently. We both want to be more active and less food and alcohol centric. Winter has me a bit stir crazy so getting out when the weather improves will make a big difference.

Check or groupon.com to see local things to do.  My hubby and i like to go to the firing range and shoot,  or to a museum.

Thanks!  Groupon is a great idea. We like going to an archery range. Hasn't been on my radar this winter but there is an indoor range.

I love shooting too!  Grew up in the wilds of Minnesota.  I am thinking about joining "She Shoots". Have you tried them out?

I've never heard of She Shoots.  I'll look it up!

Couple of ideas:  game night, bowling, walking (dress for the weather), if you have snow build a snow sculpture,  farmer's market that is year round (they offer a lot of activities during the day and at night), a painting class, window shopping, an overnight get away to explore a new city, go for a cup of coffee or tea at a coffee shop (they may offer music), etc. If you are comfortable with massage, a couple's massage.  if not comfortable with full body, have a head and neck massage.
