Im still pre-op for those who dont know me...

Can they really put someone under anesthesia at 450lbs?

Im asking this because I have one medically neccisary surgery coming up this month and i wiegh 450lbs. Down the road when I get gastric bypass I will likely still weigh around 400 lbs.

Is this dangerous for me?

It's dangerous, but anesthesia carries a little danger for anyone.

Did they do preop testing? They'll often require anexam by your PCP and clearances by a cardiologist, etc before any surgery. If you checked out ok, you've minimized the risk as much as possible.

Anesthesia carries certain risks for everyone. But you can be confident that you will be carefully monitored throughout your surgery. Your doctor(s) want the best outcome for you. Everyone worries before surgery.

I don't know if you have ever watched it but the show 600 pound life shows patients in the 600 pound range that undergo WLS with Dr. Now in Texas. He does all the appropriate testing first but all of them are able to be put under at higher weights. The key is making sure that your Dr. knows of any other health issues you may be having and epically if you have any sleep apnea issues that way they can monitor you the right way to keep you safe while under.

Had VSG on 9/28/15

Lost 161 lbs since surgery, LOST 221 lbs overall so far!!

I weighed 477 on the day of my surgery, and they put me out just fine. Like other's said, there IS a risk, but there's a risk for everyone. Don't worry, your doctor's will do all they can to take care of you.

My WLS was at 440+, and I have had surgery at over 600. It is indeed more dangerous, however, it is possible and occurs all the time. We are higher risk, particularly with sleep apnea post-op. It's best to ask for an anesthesiologist familiar with bariatric patients.

However, we do get it all the time, yep.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

That makes me feel a lot better. I dont have sleep apnea, but they are using a specialized anesthesiologist and having an extra surgeon there to help so i feel pretty confident in the facility. Its nice to hear from someone who has been through it. Thank you ð?'-?
