I had blue cross blue shield. They originally wouldn't cover weight loss surgery. I called the number on the back of my card to start the appeal process. I switched plans during open enrollment and still had blue cross blue shield but a different plan. I had to have a letter of support from my PCP and comorbidities. I had sleep apnea and gestational diabetes. I had to prove 5 years of attempted weight loss and go to my PCP monthly for one year to specifically discuss weight loss and be weighed. That, along with my BMI got me approved. It was about an 18 month process.

If I were in that situation, I'd be going to Mexico. People have great experiences there, and it's much more affordable.

I honestly hadn't considered going out of the country for surgery. I've never been out of the country, so it really hadn't occurred to me. I'll have to look more into it.
