I am...my "to read" list makes me cry. A lot >.>;;

I never feel bad for purchasing books...I am hitting a physical space limitation myself. Unfortunately the kindle doesn't seem to care about that!

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I, too, highly recommend the CBT Toolbox book. I have used it quite a bit for clients with a wide variety of issues.

Excellent post, Donna!

Donna - Are there any audiobooks you recommend or is CBT something that really requires a workbook to write in? I have a long commute and would love to start listening to audiobooks that could help me control my eating.

That is a good question! I always get psych ebooks or digital and not audio formats, so unsure. I also do mostly DBT these days (DBT will eclipse CBT as BED treatment in general, I predict). One of my favorite books is a decent DBT ebook called Calming the Emotional Storm.

Retrain Your Brain: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in 7 Weeks is a very good print book, but I've never listened to the audio version. Still, if unabridged it may be worth it. I tend to dislike making recommendations for things I haven't used, though.

Anything by Dr. Peter Levine is also really helpful...while not about CBT, he has written extensively about trauma, and the principals can also apply to eating disorders as there is some overlap in terms of pathology (if not actuality).

An audiobook I do frequently suggest to WLS peeps, and one that helped push me into being an integrated health clinician, is When the Body Says No by Gabor Mate. It discusses the connections between stress and disease, as there are many which can prove quite insidious. Not CBT either, but though it doesn't directly talk about eating necessarily, all of the principals still apply if you want a foundational understanding.

Forgot to add, there's a strong lack of decent-ish books that are non-clinical. If you want clinical ones I can see what's available on audiobook format, though even I fall asleep reading those so they may not be good for driving, lol!

Donna we are really lucky to have you here. My surgeon never talked about eating disorders, not once.

when I was young I was a binge eater. What is so screwed up is I saw on tv that you can throw up ice cream very easily without it hurting.

therapy is one thing that helps me. Immensely. I am on meds I wi**** would just fix me. But now down the road I know we have to really look at ourselves and be honest. Not always an easy task.

Thank you for posting
