Two Year Surgiversary Date! **PICTURES FIXED**!
Two years ago today I had my DS with Dr. Ungson in Hermosillo, Mexico. My sister came with me & all went well. My only regret was not having done it 10 years ago.
How has surgery affected my life?
I love the social freedom that I enjoy now. Many people, particularly men, who didn't know me or that I came in casual contact with would either ignore me or be disdainful. Now most people are friendly (& especially men). Not everyone fits in those categories, of course!!! Some people are just plain nice & others are just plain mean & it has zero to do with me. Just enough of a difference, in general, to be noticeable. I'm so much more confident & happy with my physical self. I have met someone & fallen in love, he's the best thing in my life. THANK YOU DS!!!
My glucose levels had been in the 96 - 99 range for years while I was 210 - 245 & an avid exerciser. I confess that once I decided to have WLS (at just about 240 - 250), I consciously decided to eat any & everything I wanted (I was also depressed at the time) & I gained a whole lot of weight really, really quickly. At time of surgery I was 287, BMI about 48. My last glucose draw a month before surgery was in the low 100's. I just had the regular fasting draw last month & it was 72. My dad had diabetes & I was certainly heading down that road. NOT ANYMORE. THANK YOU DS!!!
My lipids/ cholesterol were always pretty good, now they're excellent. Unfortunately, my good HDL has also decreased a good 7 points, but the ratio b/w my HDL & total is considered optimally heart-healthy. THANK YOU DS!!!
Life is good & gratitude is most certainly my attitude!
Thank you to all my VERY VERY helpful DS peeps. To illustrate just how valuable this board is for lurkers & newbies . . . I had appendicitis that induced a bowel obstruction & basically I had classic bowel obstruction symptoms last August. Went to the ER, they only did an Xray, which can't detected soft tissues, & the ER dr sent me home & told me I could go back to work the next day. It's everyone on this board who did everything but jump up & down telling me I needed to go back to the ER to get a CT scan with contrast bc I had all the symptoms of a BO. They were right & averted a near disaster finally getting treatment nearly 48 hrs after symptom onset. THANK YOU MY FELLOW DSers!!!
In closing, I hope my pictures post here. My sister actually took these, but didn't save them electronically so I scanned them into my computer. They might look teeny tiny!
The first pictures were taken right before surgery. The skinny pictures were taken this past Christmas. The lady next to me is my sister.
