Having trouble getting down 8 oz broth

I am 6 days post vertical sleeve and having difficulty getting broth down. The taste is terrible. Can I substitute a salt tablet instead (with additional water of course)?

Id suggest trying a different brand, or a low sodium version, or adding different seasonings or a bit of water? I used a veggie broth that came in 1 liter cartons during my pre op. is there a reason you are drinking broth? To help get your liquids up? Or are you still on clear liquids?

everyones plan is different, and I was only on clear liquids for two days. Then a week of full liquids, where I mostly just had water and protein shakes.

good luck!

Thanks, I've tried several, just plain too salty and intolerable.  I know the need for sodium, and know I would still need to get in the water too, but there isn't any protein in this stuff - just salt and a strong aftertaste.

I think there's enough sodium in so many things, that you don't need to drink broth to get it.

Maybe im not understanding why you are drinking it. I only used broth during my pre op diet to stave off hunger.

If you are worried about electrolytes, the nutritionist at my clinic said you can replenish with G2 Gatorade, or by adding orange juice to water at a 1:4 ratio (I.e. 1 quarter cup of juice to 1 litre of water) and adding a pinch of salt.

If she's 6 days post-op, it might be part of the post-op clear diet.

no, you can't substitute a salt tablet. Why would you? The point of broth is for the small amount of protein it provides, plus fluid.

I finally found a solution.  For those first 3 weeks when they had me on a cup of broth a day for the salt, I picked my favorite Maruchan noodle soup - added ho****er (yep it holds a cup of ho****er), then simply dumped it over a strainer before the noodles had a chance to soak in the water.  My favorite was the new Spicy Taco flavor.  I am still using it, but now add in bits of chicken with Phase II.

Dilute with water?  Try a low sodium version?  (check the Health Food aisle if the regular soup aisle stuff doesn't taste great).

If you have an Instant Pot, making beef or chicken broth is fast and easy, and it's quite delicious.   Just made myself some beef broth and the whole house smells fabulous.  Mine will turn into some sort of pureeable soup, I imagine.

If no instant pot, a pot on the stove and several hours of simmering still work.  Beef soup bones are super cheap, just ask your butcher for some if they aren't out.  (or get one of those pre-roasted chickens and use that)

Do you like any of the Progresso Light soups? If so, in my pre-op education class the nutritionist said that if we can't stomach the low-sodium, low-fat broth, that we could take a chicken soup from the Progresso Light line and simply strain it. I would try that and maybe you'll have some luck getting it down.
