Hi everyone, I was wondering if Optifast is covered under private health insurance?  I am with Great West Life, is anyone else??

Hmm, I've already used my HSA on eyeglasses and dental work!! Could it be covered like a prescription drug??

optifast does not have a DIN (drug id number) so it wont be covered like a prescription .. however if you have a misc spending allowance it may be allowed under that

Oh well, it is not the end of the world.  Is it about $80.00 for 2 weeks or am I way off?

More like $80/week.

I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!

Mine was not covered - tried with 3 different companies. They all classify it under weight loss products and do not cover it

Susan

If you can find a Medical Mart out your way, then you can cut the price to about $150 for two weeks.

If you buy it from the surgeons office, you'll be paying a lot more.

If you find a Medical Mart out that way, you need to get the Doc to write you a script for it so you can pick it up.

Good luck
