stopped antacids - pouch pain

Hello everyone:

After my appointment at the clinic last Tuesday, I was told to stop the antacid medication that I have been on since the surgery. Today, I have the most horrible pouch pain. After breakfast and coffee, I actually had to turn my car around and cancel my work appointments because it hurt and I felt sick to my stomach. Sipping water even hurts today. I wonder if it is a coincidence or related? I see my gp on Friday for a different issue so I think I will bring it up. boo. It is a burning pain in my pouch - pretty constant but worse when I drink - haven't tried to eat since breakfast but will try a yogurt now. Anyone else have this?

Thanks. It settled down by dinner. I have a doctors appointment Friday morning. I researched ulcers and it has scared the crap out of me now. Hope it was just a bad pouch day.

My clinic advised I stop my ppi at 6 months, with the caveat to be aware some people need to be on it for a full year.

Their advice was stop before your perscription runs out, and if you feel any discomfort, start again. Then you'll have a good idea. And to contact them for a prescription renewal.

good luck!

I have to continue my Prevcid since surgery almost 6 years. If I miss a dose the pain returns. Have had a couple of scopes and just reflux no ulcers. Some need to stay on it for life
