Mini Gastric Bypass on 07/23/17

hello. I had a mini gastric bypass and I'm wondering if it's an eligible expense with Revenue Canada.

From what I have heard from my accountant friend (who paid for her own sleeve surgery last year), any medical expenses that add up to over $1800 can be claimed on taxes. She claimed hers, but they contacted her to see the bill. She sent it and it was fine.

With the mini gastric bypass you're still restricted with what you can eat and reduces absorption of food but it is a less complicated surgery. It seems this is the way most bypasses are done now.

with a letter from your surgeon about the medical necessity of it, yes. Mine was. My surgeon included my bmi etc.
