Topic: THURSDAY GRATEFUL POST
  Good Morning Everyone,

I am exhausted this AM to say the least.   I am grateful that my son is home right now and is now sitting in the ER at one of our local hospitals seeking attention for his heart/ back/ leg issues he has been having.   I had planned on going with him till I woke with a raging headache.    Please keep him in your prayers.    So today I am grateful that I made it safely driving the 600 miles yesterday to get him and back home.    I will update everyone when I find something out about his condition.    PLEASE share if you will what you are grateful for today.   Have a great day !!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

This is interesting reading while you're researching the band:

www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-07/allergan-receives-u-s-subpoena-over-weight-loss-device.html

I will also add that I see no better outcomes with Realize band than with Allergan's.

Most that have revised from band to VSG say that VSG works the way the band was suppose to work!

Please everyone keep my 26 yr.old son in your prayers.    He has been having heart issues now for over a week.    He went to the ER in San Antonio a couple of days ago and they did nothing but tell him to see a PCP.   He has no money, job or insurance.   In fact he is almost in his 10th month at Teen Challenge and was due to graduate in August.     Now this will probably push his graduating this 12 month program  back to Sept. but that's OK.    Please pray for me as I drive between 11 - 12  hours to get him and bring him home.      Thank you for your prayers.

Topic: TUESDAY GRATEFUL POST
  Good Morning Everyone,

We ALL have so very many things in our life to be grateful for.    After all we woke up this AM and are on our computers reading the message boards here.    Today I am SO grateful for everyone on the message boards answering questions and giving useful advice to others in need.    Sometimes we get answers to our qestions that even our doctors can't answer;   because one or more of us who have had WLS has  gone through that particular thing.    I am SO grateful for all of you and for your help on the messageboards and for caring about others and their health and trying to provide answers when one feels hopeless at that particular moment.     THANK YOU !!!!  Please share if you wish what you are grateful for today.

Topic: MONDAY GRATEFUL POST
  Good Morning Everyone,

Hope you are ready to start a amazing week.   School is wending down for kids and teachers and I know that they are ALL very excited about that.     Today I am grateful for my Health.   My son in Teen Challenge called me  yesterday to tell me that he has been experiencing tightness in his chest and pain.    He is going to the doctor today to see if anything is wrong with his heart.   Please keep him in your prayers if you will.   I am SO grateful that at this point in my life I have NO health issues at all.   Thanks to my WLS for that.   I would probably have major health issues if I had not decided 6 1/2 yrs. ago to have my WLS.    Good health is something IMHO you don't take for granted.    PLEASE share with us if you will what you are grateful for today.   Have a wonderful day.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

My dietician does not follow the Plateau Busters diet, but she was ok with me doing the pre surgical liquid diet for 10 days (the amount of protein should kick weight loss in again). I have 10 pounds left. What I have been told is 30 min of intentional exercise 5 days a week..but mostly stick to your calorie/protein goals. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you, Tom.In the year and some months since my surgery, you have posted this a couple other times and I think it is great that you did. I read it every time you do and I think each time "I always forget to do[fill in the blank here]"....So, again , thank you , thank you, thank you. I hope you are doing well on your journey. I am about 10 pounds to goal....going slow..too slow for my liking haha...Have a great weekend!

Please DO A LOT of research. Just not on this board, but other sites too. Make sure you check on information OUTSIDE the U.S.

Also do a lot of research on the type of person and/or eater you are. This will help decide which operation is correct for you.

For me, I love my band and I have been very successful. With that said, if my band needed to be removed, I wouldn't hesitate to do the sleeve.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

I was like you I had trouble choosing.  In the end I decided to go with what ever Band my surgeon thought was best for me.  In the end he went with Realize.

Topic: 25 + 1 Rules to be successful

Over the years I have collected some common “rules” one should follow in order to be successful. So far I am up to 25+ “universal set of laws” one should heed during their journey.

I would love to see this list grow, so please feel free to add to it. Maybe one day this will be adopted as the Constitution of Gastric Success!! :D

It doesn’t matter which operation you had. Nor does it matter how long you’ve been on this journey.  I came across this and it was the “slap across the head” I needed. I hope you find it helpful

(1) Get your daily Protein requirements in (60 – 80 grams – your Doctor/Nutritionist may have different target amount – so follow their recommendation). Protein requirements change over time (depending upon weight loss stage, amount of exercise, hospitalization, etc). Check with your Doctor/Nutritionist concerning your protein needs.

(2) Protein drinks should be: between 20 and 30 grams of protein per serving (25 is recommended), contain less than 150 calories (110 recommended) contain less than 10 grams of carbohydrates (5 is recommended) (your Doctor/Nutritionist may have different rules – so follow their recommendation).

(3) Remember eat: Protein first, then fiber (ex veggies/fruits) then (if there is room) good (NON-starchy) carbohydrates.

(4) Drink at least 64 ounces of non-carbonated/non-caffeinated liquid.

(5) No drinking while eating and/or 30 minutes before and/or after meals (your Doctor/Nutritionist may have different rules – so follow their recommendation)

(6) You must east to lose weight!! Yes I know this a strange concept but if you don’t, your body will go into “starvation mode” and “store all it can”.

(7) Each meal should take at least 25 to 30 minutes to complete. Studies show it takes this long for your stomach to tell your brain it’s full – no matter how much food is in it.

(8) Eat at the same time everyday

(9) Eat until you are full, not stuffed

(10) Wait 30 to 60 seconds between putting another piece food in your mouth

(11) Make sure foods (especially meats) are moist

(12) Before you put that piece in your mouth, ask yourself “Would I give this size to a baby?”

(13) Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew- Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew- Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew- Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew- Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew- Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew-Chew (at least 30 times, or until it feels like baby food consistency)

(14) Take your vitamins !!

(15) Remember, during the operation they put the tool around your stomach, and not your brain. So, you will need to do some self control.

(16) Exercise – begin slow (example walk; climbing a flight of stairs; park in the furthest spot in the lot) and then gradually increase. My suggestion do two days; rest a day; do two days; rest a day; do two days

(17) If you feel like “snacking” do something else (ex. Go outside; call a (WLS) friend; come to the board and post, etc)

(18) Participate in a support group!!! It is a fact that those who attend supports groups have increased weight loss long term!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(19) ok .. a little gross and try to figure out what I am saying .. What you think may be a “GAS” may come out as a “Liquid” or “Solid” .. so BE CAREFUL and BE PREPARED !!

(20) Remember to speak to your Doctor/Nutritionist regularly.

(21) Speak to your Psychiatrist/Psychologist at least twice a year, especially when the “honeymoon” stage is  over.

(22) Keep your surgeon appointments.

(23) At specified intervals, get your blood-work done. Check with your Doctor.

(24) Shop the perimeter of the supermarkets.

(25) If you can’t pronounce the ingredients – don’t buy it!!

(26) Know I am always here for you :D

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom
