If you don't follow your passion, it WILL destroy you.

Luckily, in nursing you can drop back 20 and pretty much change to another aspect of it at any time. Do what is good for you and your family. If the schedule you have at the school is better for kids, then do it for now. Bariatric nursing isn't going to die any time soon. You can stay on top of what is going on here or in a support group, or on your own.

Wow, Dec. 16th will be six years since my WLS.  That seems so very, very long ago.  I am comfortable with my life.  I can't say it any better.  I know the things I can eat/do and the things that I can't.  I don't miss any of the things that I obviously, can't eat.  God has given me such a wonderful new beginning thru weight loss surgery...I give praise and thanks first of all to Him, then to my family for thier wonderful support.  (Although, I still have to educate them on the eating/drinking procedure...ha.ha).  I lost fast...I lost well....I lost too much....I am now comfortable.  I have only gained 16 pounds since my lowest weight which was 113 pounds.  Life is good!  I feel great~  I will be 60 in February and I have never felt better~Luvitsunny

Topic: New to this forum and needing friends for support.
January 5, 2009
Well, I was supposed to go see Dr. Walton on Jan 13th but decided to call and see if he had any cancellations. Well he did. I go tomorrow and meet him and discuss what all I need to do to prepare for surgery. I am so glad to get started and not wait for another week. My mom is nervous about wls. It is hard to talk to other people about it due to the negative idea's but if they had to live my life for a week, they would understand. I have told very few people, like only 5 family/friends. I have not told my little girls who are 8 and 9 years old. I don't know what to say to them about it and don't want to scare them. Any idea's welcomed. I am hoping that this website can be a support for me going it alone. My husband is of the mindset that I can lose the weight it if I just try. That is easy coming from a 130 pound soaking wet person with no overweight issues in his entire family. You know how it feels to be the "fat person" and how you feel like your dinner plate is being watched with disgust. I am really tired of that. Or when I go with my husband and he won't hold my hand and walks kinda in front of me as if he is embarrassed to be seen with me. I do have a lot of self esteem issues due to my poor spousal support but I finally realized that I want to live. Not for him but for me, my kids and the dreams that I have only dreamed. I cannot change him but I can take control of ME!! I guess that is why I want to get started. I finally have a goal that doesn't focus on what others want but what I want. I am a nurse and I am always taking care of other people. Taking care of myself.....what a concept.
I could ramble on and if anyone would like to add me as a friend I'd love that. I am going to have the gastric sleeve. TTYL

Tell me abou it! I'm having enough trouble getting my water in anyways, let alone at work. I've been taking a graduated cylinder and keeping track of my water that way. I fill it up when I get there and then I keep track throughout the day and try to finish my 64 oz before I go home. Good luck!

I have to say...Hell yeah, go for it! When I graduated, I was going to take a job in Labor and Delivery, but I enjoyed the ICU so much that I took a job there and I'm glad I did. if I had stayed in L & D I would only know babies and vaginas. but by working in the ICU, I have learned so much and people respect me and my opnions when it comes to medicine. I just don't feel that I could have achieve that (for myself) if I didn't do what challenged me. If you feel that you should do the bariatric nursing, then you should. School nurisng is fun and rewarding working with those cute kids (I've even done that too) but you will learn so much more about healthcare and about the body if you work in a hospital, of course if that's what you want.

Wow, I can't believe that my post in January was the last post to this forum.  I guess we are all busy.  I just got my BSN in July and already started the MSN program at the Univ. of No.AL.  Very good school!  Take care and blessings to all.........

Hi, I'm Kim.... I am an L&D nurse. I am 40 years old with 4 kiddos ages 4-6-16-19 and am married to a pretty great guy. Good luck with your BSN Sunny... I'm so glad I went to an RN/BSN program at age 17 and then graduated at age 21- it was so much easier that way!!!!! My daughter is a sophomore in college waiting to get into a nursing program.... stressful times!!!

Agreed, I work full time nights in L&D.... our patients bring us so many treats it's crazy!!! We have candy, cake, cupcakes, etc every single night I work... and then there is the food WE bring in... luckily, our unit seems to be on a health kick right now, so most of us are limiting our consumption of garbage!
