Surgery Side-bar

Just a heads up for anyone else out there in my boat... I had an umbilical hernia repaired laproscopically with mesh about 4 years ago. During my post-op visit with my surgeon she told me my proceedure took an extra 1/2 hour because she cleaned up the scar tissue around my hernia repair. A bonus, I guess- I could feel it tugging at my gut sometimes.  Fast forward three weeks post-op- I think the clean up may have udermined the stability of the mesh and I have experienced some tearing in the muscle wall. It is as painful as the "big" incision on the left maybe even more so, if I move in the wrong direction it's like getting stabbed in the gut. A little bruising as well. A minor setback I guess having to heal in two different areas. Worth every second in the long run, though. Just thought I'd throw this out there if anyone has a similar deal. p.s. I didn't have RNY, but I had similar pain on my right side - my doc said it was a deep stitch. The pain was so bad I had to go to urgent care.  Perhaps that could be an explanation, and not necessarily related to the hernia repair?

Check with your surgeon, but also try a heating pad. Could very well be healing. You formed scar tissue once, no reason why it might not happen again. You may just need reassurance this could be normal discomfort during the healing process. I still felt burning, intermittent pain mid, and right abdomen around those lap sites for about 2 1/2 months post op.
