Can I be in starvation mode?
Oh yeah. Not just common: the norm.
And though it might feel crazy, it's actually very normal to have those ideas. The brain has a really tough time understanding surgery in general. We are conditioned through life to think of the body as this one whole thing that works in a particular way. When we do the proceedure and wake up the next day and our bodies have been manipulated to be fundamentally different it takes the brain a while to catch up to the new normality.
Although you will definately lose slower as a lightweight and a second-go surgery, you will very likely be at your goal within 3-4 months. Your golden window lasts up to 18 months. You should have no problems in that respect. Your big challenge (all of our big challenges) will be building the skills for lifelong maintenance.
