How big is the opening from the stomach to the intestines supposed to be!

Does anyone know how big the opening from the stomach to the intestines usually is? I am 5 weeks post op and developed a stricture. I went to have it dilated yesterday and the doc said it was pretty much closed.  He dilated it 1cm and the it closed up again. He dilated it again to 1 cm but wasn't sure if it closed again or if it was just swelling. I am now able to get fluids down, which I couldn't before. The doc said I would need more dilation but wants to wait until it heals more. I am just wondering what a "normal" opening size is.

Not sure of size but I has to get dialated twice and I think it may be fixed now hopefully. Good luck

I had a stricture also, and my surgeon told me the normal size of the tube is 14 mm. Mine was the size of a pinhole and I had to have 4 dilations.

How long did you wait between dilations?

I had a stricture diagnosed at 4 weeks post op. It was about 6mm to start and was dilated to 15mm when it was finally where it needed to be. I had a total of 5 dilations all 2weeks apart. It was not until the GI specialist injected a drug called kenalog into all 4 quadrants of the scar tissue that the stricture was able to be dialted to where it was cured.

Wish you the best. Be patient
