My dietitian tells me to take tiny bites, set my fork down, chew to mush, think about the taste / texture / etc of the food, maybe even try to discern the different ingredients / spices... then repeat. Slowed me down tons.

i'm having trouble with this lately too.

Part of my problem is that I can't just focus on what I'm eating because most of my day is spent at work and I have to multitask. I can take a break for either lunch or dinner but not both and not for my snacks.

I work on a support desk and a lot of times I have to hurry and swallow what's in my mouth so I can answer the phone or else I am working hard at solving the world's IT problems and just can't ignore incoming requests long enough to eat.

I'm sure I can do better if I really focus on it. So that's what I'm going to do. Starting tomorrow (because today is almost over as far as work is concerned) I am going to take smaller bits and really slow down my eating at work.

Just wanted you to know you're aren't alone! This has been creeping back up on me over about the last month!

I do everything you are not supposed to do. I play video games, watch TV, surf the Internet and work while I eat. Anything that gives me something other to focus on than eating.

I have a hard time eating slow as well. My nutritionist said to read a book while you eat. Take a bite and put down your fork and then read a page or two before you take another bite.

I have this problem, getting worked up with the kids at meals is the worst for me. I try to put my fork down between each bite when we all eat together. That helps a lot. With liquids early out I used the clock, sip every odd minute till half bottle gone. That is not as big a problem now.

when i first got home from the hospital, i had a word search book to work on in the motel just before surgery, so i would take a bite, then look for a word while chewing, then you do not realize how many words you actually find before you take your next bite or....it takes a bit to find a word....i had always been a slow eater pre op...so this was just fine with me....i am still a slow eater....but this worked for me too....slowed me way down.....i also used the little ****tail forks and spoons and eat on a small plate even now 1 year post op...
give it try...say you dont get to take another bite until you find the word you are looking for or X number amount of words...
