I had rny yesterday.  After gi test this morning, was given clearence to drink 2 oz per hour.  Catheter was removed at that time as well.  Problem is havent really urinated yet.  With IV's and fluids for almost 11 hours, would think id be going like crazy.  Nurse doesn't feel its an issue, but really bloated.  Worried something is really wrong.   Has this happened to any of you?

I had surgery on a Friday morning at 7am, didn't REALLY go until Sunday morning when the whole area woke up!  I think the stresses body holds water for protection.

They want to do ultrasound and possibly put a catheter in if bladder is full.  Wish they would give me until tomorrow and see if it works!

Have you tried sitting on the toilet, relaxing, thinking about something else (or nothing at all) and even tricking water in the sink?  Works for me!

the floodgates definitely opened for me day 3!

Sometimes it just takes time after surgery. When it comes, the floodgates will probably open...LOL. Not with this surgery, but a different one I had, it took a little time. I am sure it will happen. Good Luck.

It is fairly common post-op to take a while. Probably most of the fluids from the IV already exited when you still had the catheter in (and sometimes they aren't running the IV at a very fast rate after surgery is over, so you aren't getting as much fluid as you think you are), and if you are only drinking 2 ounces if water per hour, there isn't much extra fluid.

Trust the nurse and relax. It will take your body a while to get back to normal functioning (on all fronts).

Thanks.  They did a bladder scan and it showed almost nothing in it.  Am worried about bloated feeling.  Stomach feels really full and big right now. Walked alot today so not sure why gas is still so stuck in there.  Will trust what they say.

That bloated feeling will likely last several days....

Started to urinate over night!  Not quite floodgates yet, but on way.  Thanks to all for your support!

That's great. So happy didn't involve any extra measures. As for the gas and bloat, I found most of mine came out in one day.... it was a little crazy :) Keep walking, keep drinking.
