It saved my life

4 years ago today the phone rang. I'd been waiting a while for that call. I needed to convince a doctor I should get RnY(took a year) lose from 378 to 260 (little less than a year) and then get on a list (3 years) while maintaining my weight loss.

The phone rang and I got a beautiful kidney from a 60 year old woman who died suddenly. Her organs saved 5 people's lives that day.

All the days since are a bonus. I try to live in gratitude for what has been given to me.

Anyway..it's something I worked hard for and then won the lottery when the phone rang.

Thanks. There were some moments. I remember when the phone rang. My wife was beside me. They explained the donor was 60 and I said 60? and my wife just said "say yes". I love her for that moment. Say yes.

My labs are better than they have ever been. He said I'm going to live to be an old woman. How awesome.

Congrats Deb.  so mush better then dialysis.

Wish everyone would sign their donor cards.  Truly they wait for you to be deceased before harvesting your organs.  ( I know some worry about this)  What a difference it makes in the recipients lives.  They will never forget you and the graveyard sure doesn't need all those healthy organs

Yes you have to be really dead. They also use anesthesia and pain meds. I know..I asked.
