Tomorrow starts Liqued Diet, scared and excited

So tomorrow is the beginning of my liqued diet. I haven't done any food funerals(not a fan of the idea), but tonight I am thinking about having some sushi within my calories and macros.

The idea of being in liquids for nearly five weeks (2 pre op, 3 post op) is daunting. The idea of never losing weight long term is crippling.

My surgery is in less than two weeks, so I'm scared and nervous, but also so excited and ready. If I begin to overthink it, I want to bail out. There have definitely been times in my 11 months leading up to surgery where I think "Maybe I should wait, maybe I should try to lose weight without surgery again." But then I think about how the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I'm 22, and while that's still relatively young, I've been overweight since I was in pre-school. I've dieted on and off since I was six. I've lost, I've gained. I'm ready to try this.

In all honesty, I'm really freaked out by the possibility of complications. The vitimins issues and internal hernia scare me most. But as my surgeon said, I have a chance those might happen. However, If I don't get my weight under control now, I have certainty that I will become diabetic or worse.

So, in conclusion, I'm scared. Definitely. But I've put in almost a year of hard work, and I will continue to work hard to achieve my best life. And that's way more exciting than scary!

Good luck to you. The liquid diet after won't feel nearly the same as the liquid diet will these next to weeks. These really are the worst two and you'll be so happy afterwards. Congratulations!

I think 5 days after my surgery I had a bit of really smooth hummus....tasted like a steak dinner. But conazza hit the the nail on the head. the pre-op diet is tough. The post-op is WAY EASIER. You just don't really get hungry. I feel like I'm on the world's strictest yet easiest diet.

The surgeons have to tell you about the possible complications. But your young age is a big advantage.

I'm excited for you! I'm jealous too! I'm 42, just had my surgery last year. You will get a chance at a young adult hood not defined by obesity! The next two weeks will be difficult. But it's two weeks. You can do anything for two weeks. The postop liquids are easier because you don't have the same anger issues that you will have now. So get through the next two weeks and it'll get easier from there.

Lol! That's supposed to say, you won't have the same hunger issues. Not anger issues.

From what I've been told about the pre-op diet, your original statement might still be true. Lol.

Thanks for the encouragement. :)

Hi there! I'm not exactly 22 (much older) but I have had the exact same thoughts as you as I think most people who start a journey toward WLS have. If I can do it - you can also! I am on day 9 of my pre-op liquid diet. Surgery is set for this Tuesday barring no unforseen difficulties. I think I dreaded the liquid diet more than the surgery. Yes, it is difficult especially at first but it gets easier every day as my body adjusts to it. Take one day at a time and remember why you are doing it. You will feel better and be much healthier in the end. So far, I am down 19 lbs! Yes, there are risks from complications such as ulcers, etc. so from what I have learned from the wonderful folks on here is that you need to pay attention and if anything unusual happens call your doctor immediately. Good luck!
