DEXA SCAN!!!

Awesome - I've had a few done, so I'm happy to help interpret the results from what I've learned!

As to what it's like Librarian - you just lie on a flat table and a little bar moves across your body from head to toe while you try and lie perfectly still. Takes just a few minutes and results are near instantaneous. Really couldn;t be easier. You stay fully clothed, but can have no metal on you or it can throw off the results.

So I had the DEXA scan done... So easy folks! They did strap my feet together so they wouldn't move during the scan, but honestly, it was light bondage... easy peasy

Here are my results. The things that stand out the most to me....

  • My Tissue (% of fat) is at 29.4, they like to see women below 28 (although extra skin also falls into this category, I'd still like to see it a bit lower)
  • My Lean (Lbs) were 95.41. She said that was a good number
  • My BMC (bones) were 5.72
  • and on the second page my total BMD Densitometry ( Bone density) was above the blue area, which is apparently awesome - the like women, my age, to be in the blue... I am excelling in that area.

My takeaways from this?

  • I am very happy my bone density is sitting so nicely! Hope that stays that way
  • I am NOT all skin and bones... I can improve
  • I am also NOT in a bad place, so if I choose to stay where I am IT'S OK...

If anyone reads anything else out of this that is important, let me know. There's another page that breaks down my composition by each area... like my left arm is 26.2 % fat, and my right arm is 26.2. I'm glad I'm symmetrical

Oh... and one other VERY IMPORTANT THING....IS THAT THIGH GAP?????!!

Your bone density is freaking AWESOME!!! LIKE CRAZY GOOD! I had my ovaries out in 2009 and they did a bone density test a year later (age 43) and I was below 1 already! I haven't had one since. I just emailed the OSU clinic to make an appointment ($75).

I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago (48). I was worried it would be low, but I guess whatever I'm doing it's good!

And every time you say OSU... I think of Oklahoma State University

Yes, that makes sense... I suppose Ohio State would prefer I say "THE" OSU (eye roll)

I am constantly thrown by the OH for Obesity Help, when of course I see it as the abbreviation for Ohio. Just as I was getting the hang of tranlating from Ohio to Obesity Help, I started working for Ohio Health which also uses "OH" for self reference.

Awesome - it's really cool actually to see a female's results that is at a similar weight. At my last DEXA scan I was 147.7lbs, and you're at 140.8. And you're about 3 inches shorter than I am, so that puts us at pretty similar weights. Great bone density! My BMD was 1.234, which puts me near the top of the blue area for a 43 year old male - I thought that was pretty good, but you're crushing it ;-).

As far as BF%, you fall right in the "Normal" range. I believe "normal" for a female is 25%-31%, so I think you re right in a sweet spot where you can move into maintenance if you want, or you can certainly lose more and/or bulk up the lean mass if you so choose - the world is your oyster so to speak!

Hey, that 140.8 was with my clothes on after I ate breakfast!

I'm 138, thank you very much (joking... mostly).

There's that word again... MAINTENANCE.

That's one scary freaking word!

I do like oysters...
