Thought I would share my latest DEXA Scan for those of you who were interested. It's been 6 months since my last scan, and my weight has been quite consistent (1.2lbs heavier this time than last). However, my BF% is up some, which is alright as it wa

I am 18 months post-op RNY and yesterday I experienced an intestinal obstruction. I just wanted to share the experience in case anyone else finds themselves with these signs and symptoms. It can be life threatening, so please don't mess aroun

Ok, so there is a lot of conversation that occurs about how amazing sex is after surgery and the corresponding weight loss. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the opposite?

I am a 43 year old male that has always had a normal to high

I eat quite a bit of oatmeal now that I'm in maintenance. In fact, steel-cut oats are the only grain I generally consume. However, when I eat oatmeal I tend to add some Splenda, and I try and keep my use of artificial sweeteners to a minimum. I also

Context: I had surgery on 3/21/2016. I've lost about 180lbs and have been in maintenance since early December, 2016.

I'm really pleased that I've been able to "weather" the last month, as it has been the most challenging so far in my

Quick context: I am 15 months post-op, went from 333 to ~152. Been in maintenance for the last 6 months. My weight has been stable, bouncing about 3-5 lbs in either direction.

Yesterday, I run into my boss in the hall (I do not see my boss o

I am about 15 months post-op, and just recently I have been starting to accept the fact that I'm thin. I'm no longer startled to catch my reflection in a mirror, and I don't think "there are no way these pants are going to fit" every time I get dresse

So I got an updated DEXA Scan today. The last one was six months ago, and I have been in maintenance for 3 of those 6 months. First to recap the weight loss over the last year (or so):

HW: 333 / BMI 50.6 (2/9/2016)

Wow. It's really hard to believe it has already been a year, and at the same time it's hard to comprehend how much has changed for me in the last year. Let's start with the stats:

I am 11 months out from my RNY and can tolerate most healthy foods; however from time to time I really struggle with ground meats (I know, right, these are often some of the first meats tolerated by many patients).  Anyway last night I sat down to a di

This happened a couple of weeks ago, but I forgot to share!

So I'm out at the grocery store just minding my own business when this somewhat older gentleman in a motorized scooter comes up behind me.  Keep in mind this is a c

Of all the new recipes I have made over the last year, this is by far one of the very best.  The flavor is out of this world.  I substitute cauliflower rice for the basmati rice.

How do you all deal with "date night" or activities in general with your spouse/partner?

Prior to my WLS about a year ago, my wife and I primarily went out to dinner for our entertainment.  In fact, I just looked it up - we

Ok this is a bit of a long story, and I'm really posting it to formalize it and keep myself honest.

Hi Jester, Maintenance is trail and error depending on how active you are... Protein first, veggies then fruit. Keep it low on carbs. Be sure and post or at least read the daily eating thread on the RNY forum. I, to this day get great ides from there. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/6016059/Whats-on-your-menu-today-Wednesday-RNYers/

Ahhhh!!! I know I need to eat more (Lord knows everyone keeps telling me to!), but I feel like I eat a TON of food. I eat 5-6 times a day. I consume at least a pound of veggies a day, as well as close to that in fruit. I also eat protein (animal and non-animal) with at least 3 of those meals. My challenge is upping calories while still sticking to plan. I can eat a LOT of food and still have a low calorie total for the day if I stick to my plan. I have managed to get up to 1,400 - 1,700 calories a day. Which is a lot better than the 1,000 - 1,200 I was getting. I am hopeful that I have gotten the hang of it as I've been bouncing around the same 145-150 range for the last month. But I'm trying not to jinx myself here because every time I have thought that in the past, my body suddenly decides to drop 5 lbs. Hopefully the caloric increase is helping. I have also stopped working out the last few weeks as I started having severe shoulder pain and am in the process of getting MRI results. And lower body exercises are really not on the table as I need two knees and a hip replaced (getting the hip done this Monday!). Maybe the lack of exercise is helping slow down the weight loss as well.

Hi Jester, I had the same problem....My surgeon told me to add 500 a day, I know, I know you are freaking out right now. Do so with protein first, veggies and lastly fruit. Do that for a week or two and see if it slows down and you start to maintain. If not, add another 250 per day the next week. I also was working out like a body builder at the time and was burning after that I could take in. So evaluate how hard you are working out too. It took me a couple of months but I hit 114 and then slowed down and settled at 125. Also if you have not done so, hang out on the RNY forum and check out the daily eating thread. Great meal ideas. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/
