Surgery in 3.5 Hours

I guess I am experiencing some of the same feelings on nervousness that I have read about in many of the forum posts. I am scheduled for 12pm today, it seems surreal after such a long process to meet the insurance requirements. I did have a question regarding post op. Would anyone not recommend riding in a car for 3.5 hours? I am off from wor****il the 26th and was hoping to spend some time with my mother and grandparents?

Congrats on your surgery! Just remember to sip and walk as much as possible!

As for the car ride, the only problems are the seat belt around the belly and the fact that you need to walk alot to keep from getting blood clots. I suggest taking frequent walking breaks during the ride as a possibility and make sure to take lots of fluids to have.

Congrats on surgery!

As for travel, I know my doctor suggested if I was going to be in the car for an hour or more that I stop frequently to get out and walk around. I would double check with your surgeon to see what he/she says.

Hope all goes well today!

After I was finally released from the hospital, I ended up having an 8 hour car ride as I had to pick up my dog from mother in laws. We made frequent stops (basically every time a bathroom stop came up we would stop) I did just fine. I was still really tired that day, but I did really well, I also layed back some and slept a bit. I hardly had any pain in my stomach area, most of the pain for me was in my back/shoulders (gas) and around my sternum, but it wasn't horrid.

Like everyone else suggests just walk, walk, walk.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I appreciate the feedback and encouragement. The surgery went very well, I am hoping to be released today, latest tomorrow.
