Can low salt make you feel "off"?

I have been on liquids and I noticed the soup my husband got me is low sodium. For the past two days I have not feel all the great...sort of light headed. Can I not be having enough salt? The soup he gotme was organic and it is 90 calories with 220 sodium. I looked at the old soup I had and the same amount was 780 sodium.  I am on day 13 now on liquids..4 pre op and 9 post op and I just feel weak.
Any suggestions? Going to see doctor on Tuesday but if I can make tomorrow a better day I would love that!
Thanks
Gina

I think it probably comes with the territory of just not eating very much. I definitely had a couple days where I felt kind of light headed and weak. Do you drink any low cal Gatorade? It has electrolytes in it that could help a little.

This reminded me that I want to make some garlic tomato soup

I agree with the previous poster and it is probably due to decreased intake and not the salt content.  If your kidneys are functioning normally, they usually will not let your sodium level get out of balance and they will hold the sodium in if you need it.  Having said that, if your serum sodium level (the sodium in your blood) is low, you will feel off (confused, weak, shaky, to name a few symptoms).  At any rate, let your doctor know how you are feeling when you see them next and call them if you start feeling worse before you see them.  It will not hurt you to drink the Gatorade type drinks as well.

Hope you are feeling yourself soon.

Yes, 100%, low sodium intake can cause all sorts of disarray in the body. The lowest recommended intake level is 1400-1500mg per day. Sodium is a necessary thing for our bodies. I was diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension last February all because I decided to cut sodium to preven****er weight. Well, after almost passing out on numerous occasions, and feeling horrific, I finally went to my PCP. He told me to stop restricting sodium so strictly, and to increase fluids and activity levels.

I drank regular gatorade, and even those pedialyte pops. More sugar, but I needed to get my body regulated. My Sodium levels on my labs were low normal.

Thanks everyone. I was only taking in about 700 sodium so I am now increasing it! I am drinking G2 Gatorade as we speak. Will have some more soup and add some seasalt to it.
Thanks
