Hi!  I'm finally back in an awesome workout routine!  I wanted to ask you vets out there the following question:  On days where you worked out intensely (ie, hour long cardio class, a spinning class, or running for 40 minutes), what was your calorie/protein/fluid intake for the day?  I'd ask this on the Fitness forum, but I wanted the VSG perspective :)

I want to continue to lose weight, but I don't want to hurt my body by not fueling it correctly.  Right now on days I work out hard, I consume 60-70+ grams of protein (doctor recommends at least 60), 64+ ounces of fluid, and around 800-850 calories.  On my new schedule, I will be running 2-3 days, cardio weight lifting 2 days, yoga class and 30 minutes of cardio or a spinning class on 1 day.  On the 7th day, I do a nice long walk :)

Thanks!

Sorry I'm not a "vet" but I thought I'd just share what i've been doing - for my intense, hour + workouts, i'm usually around 800-900 calories, 85+ g protein, and at least 120 oz of fluids. I sweat a lot though so I definitely drink a lot more during/after workouts.

I'm not a vet, but I do workout hard when I'm able. If I do a lazy 30 minutes, I don't do anything special aside from making sure to drink the full 64oz fluids.

But if I push myself for 45-75 minutes, I make sure to take an extra snack of protein immediately after my workout-- this is usually a premade protein shake for 17-30gms protein/3-6gms carbs/120-160 cals depending on the workout. I also sometimes will eat something with just a few high quality complex carbs before the workout so that I can sustain my energy the whole time.

So normal days I eat around 800 calories, 60-70gms protein and try to stay under 30gms carbs, but hard workout days I may eat up to 950 calories with 90gms protein and maybe 50-60gm complex whole grain carbs.

So far it works for me but everyone is different. I hope that helps!

Not a vet yet, but I worked out hard both pre-op and post-op....I was doing 2 hours cardio 4x a week, and weight training 3x week.
In the beginning, I tracked my food, and was getting only 500-600 calories any given day...and about 65 grams of protein on average.
I didn't change my food due to the grueling workouts, because I couldn't eat any more if I tried.
What I did do was schedule my workouts for later in the day, when I had at least gotten in a bigger portion of that daily calorie total and had some energy...I also had protein about 45 minutes prior to workout, so then I could drink a lot of water during workout.
I did slack off with tracking and exercise the last couple of months.
However, I just tracked food yesterday to see where I am at now (nearly 6 months post op) and was shocked to see I was at 1100 calories! My protein was only at 50 grams and my fluids I am not sure...of course, this was only one day and I don't eat the same way every day.
I have been currently only weight training really hard 2x weekly and skipping the cardio workouts...but I do live a much more active lifestyle than in the past....
I'm going to add back in the cardio though...now that I'm comfortable with seeing the scale move again in weight loss...I was freaking out a bit last month due to the fast weight loss and lots of hair loss.
Anyway, I guess to make a long story short...I just did what I could...focused on protein and water intake....and although each day may not be perfect, I am chugging along and losing weight steadily and I'm getting very lean and toned...I have muscles for the first time in my life!
So keep up the exercise, it is so worth it! My tummy has drastically gone down and so has my upper arms...even though they are still my worst areas. I don't have much loose, flabby skin and I'm sure the weight training helped pulled things in more...

I would push up to 80g+ of protein and push up the fluid as much as you can.  I had gone off shakes, entirely, tryin g to get all my protein from food, and I went into a stall in the '60-70g' range.  I upped protein and fluids and came out of it.  I still keep my carbs under 30, but I am getting some of them from a serving of whole grain (generally a wasa cracker) each day.

I start the day with 1/2 a scoop of Isopure Dutch Chocolate powder in my coffee and I have a 1/2-1 scoop after big workouts (also in coffee -- milk doesn't so much agree with me).

Typical day for me:

Wake up: 1/2 Scoop Isopure in  Coffee (12g Protein)

Breakfast: 1/2 cup Non-fat Cottage Cheese (15g Protein)

Lunch: 2 1/2oz Swiss Cheese (20g Protein), Whole Grain WASA (1.3g Protein)

Supper: 2.5oz  ((measured uncooked) 90/10 Organic Free Range Beef Burger w/ american cheese (20g Protein) &  1 oz spinach (by  volume, the burger is really about 1.75 after it's cooked, cheese .75, so about 2 1/2 oz 'cooked' volume -- my capacity)

Post-workout: 1/2 Scoop Isopure in coffee (12g Protein)

Add some half/half during the day and I'm at 780-800 calories, 80g+ protein, 21g Carb plus any from my supplements (10 or so)

Just one other point. I'm also 5'3", and I'm 44. I'm almost exactly 3 months ahead of you and I'm still losing at a good clip -- almost 8lbs in my 9th month. I've been very careful all along with food intake and in keeping up my exercise. It sounds like you are, too, and there's no reason you shouldn't blow past your doctor's goal. You are doing grat!

My short-term goal is a normal BMI, 140. I'm about 10lbs out from that, and not worried about hitting it at all.
