VSG while single and living alone??
I, too, live alone (sans a German Shepherd). Before surgery on 12/16/11, I "purged" my kitchen and pantry of all food that was not on my post surgery diet. Out went any baking supplies, noodles, and popcorn! I rearranged all my cooking utinsels, making measuring cups and spoons, skaker bottles, and smaller bowls and plates more accessible. I boxed up the current vitamins and replaced them with the liquid ones that I would be using. At the time I was doing all this, I had a huge appreciation for people going through this surgery with families at home....buying their food and cooking their food. It would be a huge challenge for me to do that...so my hat is off to those who do just that and stay focused on their diet.
Good luck to you in your adventure!
Yours in Whey and Protein,
L.
I had never considered it, but she brought it to my attention that in itself has given me a visual to consider when facing the issues.
Last week i bought a new scale for home (the last was tossed from frustration as usual) and I weighed myself and was down only 2lbs in about 2.5 weeks from last weigh in at the doctors. I was so disappointed since I have been on a program discussed with the nutritionist of protein shakes and 1 lite dinner. Following her criteria watchubf carb, protein requirements from the shakes and fat content I THOUGHT I should have lost more then 2 lbs. Immediately my mind went to a comfortable place. I CONSIDERED going to the store for a bag of chips and I could have them that day/night and now since I have a scale I can really follow my progess closely and START tomorrow..
Lights went off in my head, DR Jain was so right and our conversation came flooding back. She is my new trigger I reflex on our convo and that STOPPED MY DEAD. I know how right she is, and I can cope with it. I know how difficult it will be but that visual hopefully will stay in my mind forever. She said exactly what I neededf to hear. I NEVER WENT FOR THE CHIPS!!!
i have been trying many different products preparing for surgery and have found a great choice. The PURE Protein meal replacement bars are wonderful, not quite candy believe me, but enough similarity to be passable and contains 20 grams of protein per bar. In the evening if I want a snack they are an option. One bar has 200 calories with 20 grams of protein, I usually have one as my 1 replacement meal and the urge for sweets is satisfied. If as a snack I can have 1/2 and that is just perfect. They are thick and chewy and have really helped overcome burnout from the shakes.
I saw the surgeon yesterday and he was so pleased with my pre-op plan that we are doing surgery without losing 30 pounds he mandated before. As of yesterday I was down 22 pounds since November 18th. My surgery is tentatively scheduled for 2/13/12 pending written approval and lung and cardiac tests. Should be a go and the start of a new life.
Like they say on the radio here in Las Vegas..".nothing tastes as good as being thin". That will be my mantra from here on out.....
