Hi OH Family -

I know that all of us have had food issues and we understand the struggles we face in making changes.  I am looking forward to my new life and body.  But, I am scared to death of failing esp when I am having a heck of a time with pre-op.  I don't have to technically begin until June 23rd, but I am trying to cut back now by getting off Mt. Dew, drinking protein shakes (blah..), not drinking with meals, etc.  I've tried Light Muscle Milk Vanilla Latte and it was horrible.  I've tried Unjury chicken soap ( YES!) and Unjury Strawberry Sorbet (okay).  I know some of you will say suck it up and just do it, but maybe I'm just not as strong as some.  But for those whose struggled as I am, how did you get through the pre-op??

Thanks - Melody

I'm starting preop Friday. I have been sample and experimenting.  I love adding pb2 to my vanilla protein shakes. Also a spoon of sugar free pudding. Pistachio is my favorite.

Basically powdered peanut butter. Much lower in fat then real peanut butter. It's great in a vanilla protein shake.

Melody,

There certainly is a suck it up component. I don't even have a surgery date and I've changed my eating to make things easier when I get there. Ask yourself how much you want this. How much do you want to be healthy. Remind yourself that failure is not an option.

Don't say "I think I can" say "I will". Have faith!

"agreed!"
I had my food funeral and have started my pre-op diet a week early. My liver is going to be a thing of beauty.

Remind yourself that he pre-op diet is for YOUR benefit. It shrinks your liver temporarily, which makes your surgery quicker, safer and easier. That in turn makes your recovery easier and can even reduce hair loss down the way.

Follow the diet and don't cheat - you'd really only be cheating yourself.

You need some better protein lol. I'm loving life drinking double stuff cookie and mint chocolate shakes with almond milk.

A pre op diet is miserable. I'm glad I didn't have to do it. It's good to start re-training your brain on why you eat, but you're stuck with a hunger hormone producing stomach for now. It will be much easier immediately post op - just try and remember that to help you get through it.
