I am 5 days post op and tonight I need to make my first protein shake.  I have been very nauteous so I'm wondering what type of shake will be easiest on my stomach.  I have several Celebrate ENS shakes, some nectar and some unflavored nectar I can mix with syrup and milk.  Any suggestions?

I had a really hard time with milk post-op (never had a problem with lactose/dairy prior to surgery).  I discovered almond plus milk recently and really like it.  The only other protein shake that hasn't made me nauseous post-op has been Nectar Fuzzy Navel (peach) mixed with water.  Everyone is different but that's what has helped me.  Good luck!

At only 5 days out and having nausea I'd be sticking with clear fluids. A 1/2 scoop of unflavoured whey powder mixed into a mug of broth would be my first choice for adding some protein. (mix the powder into some cool water, then add hot broth while stirring)

What guidelines did your surgeon I've you?

I absolutely hated protein shakes post op so I sat and thought of an idea I went and bought Body Fotress Vanilla Protein Powder. It is 14.97 at Walmart. They have other flavors too. I also bought frozen fruit. I mixed the powder, fruit and 1% milk into the blender and viola... A delicious smoothie and I top it with Fat free ready whip whipped cream. When I get bored I mix it with coffee. Yummy! You gotta experiments until you find what suits you. Good luck!

I havent had surgery yet but my favorite protein shake is NOT sweet. It's Unjury's chicken soup, 21gms protein. It is so yummy! Like a warm cup of chicken broth (or boullion cube but less salty). I love it!

Good luck!

My surgery hasnt been scheduled yet, all my appointments to get insurance approval are lined up. My surgeon is out for 6 weeks (her daughter is having some type of surgery). I hope to be approved in early Sept and get a surgery date ASAP. I've been testing proteins now to see what I like.

Not sure if you can have fruit this early out... hold off on the smoothie until you check with your doc.  Try Isopure- loaded with protein and easy to get down.  Protein shakes- early out if I made it with  milk it was too thick and filling, bu****er lightened it up.  Try premier protein ready to drink- many here use that.  You can buy it at sams or walmart.  11 ounces and 30 grams.  If sweet is your think trop50 orange juice (no pulp) mixed with 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, blend, then add ice to thicken.  Tastes like a creamsicle. Torani sugar free syrups really helps to add calories.

Protein hot chocolate was great early out along with the soup mentioned above.

"Torani sugar free syrups really helps to add calories."

I am still learning here too, but do you want to add calories?    *educate me.   :)   Thanks

I hated the "milky" protein drinks. My faves are the Isopure Grape Frost and Blue Raspberry flavors.
