Diet Soda

My nutritionist told me to give up carbonated diet drinks after my surgery. She said the carbonation will put pressure on my sleeve. Has anyone else heard this?

We are basically never to have a carbonated beverage again. The carbonation fills you with air and as I understand it, can lead to your stomach being stretched. No nutritional value. One of the hardest things I had to do was give up my addiction to Diet Coke but now two months later, I don't miss it and I enjoy all of the money I am saving. I am asked at my post op appts to make sure I have no soda.

Not good for you..avoid it if you can. On that note..I have been drinking regular Pepsi since 8 mths postop and it has NOT stretched my stomach at all.  I can still only eat 2.5oz of dense protein at a meal..and only a few bites of veggie besides that.  So no stretch...and no pressure...at least not for ME.  I am just giving my experience..but definitely don't pick up the habit again..so hard to put it back down. :)

I agree with Dawnie... I have started drinking it again Diet, it doesn't bother me and my Dr. said it DOESN'T stretch your stomach it just causes some people pain and to feel hungry.  But if you haven't started again DON'T!

Yes, my Nut said that to me as well.  There are so many bad things in diet soda that we really should not be putting them into our bodies anyway.  I have been soda free since 10/5 and I don't miss it one bit.

Any bubbly beverage just doesn't sit well on my tummy - soda, seltzer, champagne. My nutritionist didn't say anything about staying away from carbonated beverages, but I've found I just don't tolerate them well and since it has been almost a year since I've had a diet Dr. Pepper, I really don't think about it anymore.

Don't drink that stuff. It's no good for you. The carbonation is bad for the sleeve, but so are the chemicals and preservatives they put in those drinks.

I drink flavored water, decaf tea and coffee, and straight H2O-- I don't need to drink soda ever again.

My food plan absolutely forbids carbonated beverages, for all the very good reasons other posters have already stated.  I gave up drinking Diet Pepsi the day after my first surgeon consult (4.5 months before my surgery) because I wanted to be completely free of that addition I had to it.  Have never once missed it.

I didn't have ANY trouble giving up my Diet Coke but it has been difficult since giving up my carbonated water... Le Croix was my favorite and I would drink at least 3 a day!  I really, really miss that but my NUT also said ABSOLUTELY NO carbonation.
