3 month check up -- Surgeon says my loss is statistically better than their RNY Patients!

I went for my three-month check up today, and the doctor is muttering something about 40% of something or other, and I said, "Huh?"  (I'm so articulate!).  And he looked up from the computer screen and the numbers he was looking at and said that I was at about 40% of EWL since surgery, which is statistically ahead of  RNY patients, who tend to be at around 30% of EWL at 3 months out.  (I didn't ask if that was national stats or his practice!).

So, I'm taking that little victory to today, since I know how darn hard I've had to work to get to it!  I told him I got there by being obsessive, and had MFP print outs of my 3-month progress charts showing weight, calories, carbs, protein, and fiber!  I got the impression that his patients don't usually bring that level of detailed info to their appts!

I did tell him that I didn't ever actually have "fullness" feelings (except accidentally a couple of times) and that I measure my food, then eat that amount.  So he quizzed me on some eating habits --  like foods I'm eating, am I eating soups, etc.  Then he asked, "What happens if you drink with your meals?"  I looked at him in complete wide-eyed innocence, and said, "I wouldn't know what happens if I drink with my meals because I don't drink with my meals!".  He was amused!

He reiterated that the sleeve is just a tool (news flash!), but everyone has to figure out how to make it work best for them.  He said you have to be your own guide, your own nutritionist, your own everything -- which is basically the conclusion I think that many of us come to, but I was a little surprised to hear him express it that way.

I have to go back in two months -- so here's hoping to be well past 50% by then!

Wonderful news for you! Being a bit obsessive is not a bad thing where post op is concerned.  We need to be warriors!

I just had my 3 month as well (my surgery was 1 day before you) and I'm at 36% and was just checking my lab results online, with everything perfect!  I too brought my MFP printouts to Dr. and NUT :)

BIG congrats to you and hopes for continued success and getting to that 50% in 2 months- I think you'll get there!
