Stress Fracture!!! This sucks

So, I'm a walker. I walk 5K even when I was at my heaviest 330 pounds. The top of my right foot has been killing me for awhile now, so went and saw my Dr., says it looks like a stress fracture and need to see a specialist. Was told to be prepared to be put in a boot and walking was out for 6 weeks. I am scheduled to walk a half marathon on Sunday. But not anymore. The part that is upsetting me is not being able to walk everyday. I know I can do other things, but being such a walker type of personality am scared I won't like anything. Does anyone have suggestions?

Can you ride a bike?  Swimming is also low-impact if you have access to a pool.

Im in the exact same boat but my problem isnt temporary that can be fixed with a boot for 6 weeks. I ran a 1/2 marathon a year ago and today, after a year of back issues, I can't walk a mile...and I'll never be able to run again (at least anything more than a mile or two). Its very hard and im still be a stubborn hard ass about it and refusing to do anything other than run...but, ive realized im only hurting myself, hurting my body further and hurting my WL by not taking up other forms of exercise. Sooo....dont be like me lol. Thats my suggestion.  In your case, this is temporary. Do other cardio to keep yourself in shape....strength train to get stronger and that will help when you are walking again...its all about perspective.

When I see the specialist, he will give me a list of what I can do. Because of how long it has been hurting, he is not sure of how bad it is. The specialist will determine everything. Hoping the pool is an option, then I can always walk the pool, if it's ok.

Pools are great for stress fractures because they take all the weight off the injury. Some joint injuries (knees, hips) may have restrictions for water exercise, because you need to ease into the resistance, but I imagine you should be just fine if it's the top of your foot.

I am sorry to hear about your foot! I broke my foot last year. I found "sitting" walking workouts on You Tube. They are free too!!! Maybe that might help to get you through the healing time.
