I'm 3 days post op- first whole day home. Every time I take a sip of water I feel gas pains in chest. What's up? I Is this common? don't think my sips are too big. Any suggestions?  This is darn uncomfortable-I gotta get the water in and this is making it really uncomfortable.

Hi Alice ~ My surgeon gave me a great tip.  Usually when we drink we breathe in.  So he told me, when taking a sip and breathing in, exhale through your nose with the liquid in your mouth, then swallow.  It really helps with the gas pains.  Hope this helps ~ Kim

Third day post op i also suffered with every sip!  I started feeling better at the one week mark.  I never was able to meet my water requirements either :(

If I drank just a little too fast for the first week, I got gas like pain.

you may need a ppi if your not on one or the dose changed , it is probably acid not gas

I had this early out. I found that walking while I drank helped a lot. It was a brisk walk as I sipped. This killed 2 birds with one stone. To make sure I got my liquids in and kept moving!

I was surprised to be told that I shouldn't drink with a straw, as you can also swallow air. If you're using a straw you might want to stop that.

Thanks or all the replies.  It seems about everything liquid is giving me a gas wave right now. Jello, popsicles, water.  I already take an antacid RX, and don't use a straw, so hopefully this is just my new tummy getting used to everything and it will pass soon.
